Why We Hate Black Women is a book that takes a critical look at the historical and contemporary lives of Black women in order to answer one question: Why are so many black women abused, abandoned, betrayed, devalued and hated by both their white and black counterparts? This quest for truth opens up a cultural Pandora's Box of issues that date back over 400 years. Whether we're discussing corporate women, college women, church women or economically challenged women, their stories are the same. Whether they've reached the heights of an Oprah Winfrey or have struggled to make ends meet, there is one chord that binds them all together - the stigma of what it means to be black and female in America. As an award-winning author and speaker, Hasani Pettiford has an appeal that transcends barriers of age, culture and occupation. While this is the correct procedure and should be sought if you are being abused or stalked, you can learn to protect yourself and your loved ones. Join us for this lively, educational discussion with Anny Jacoby, female personal safety expert. After surviving her own assault, Anny took steps by turning a negative into positives. Focusing on her passion, she made helping victims her life's work. With 25 years of volunteer advocacy, she founded her company, The REALISTIC Female Self-Defense Company, www.realisticfemaleselfdefense.com, www.annyjacoby.com; which is based on a "realistic" approach for females to protect themselves, mentally, emotionally, spiritually and ultimately physically; building confidence and self-esteem. Anny is a previous Board member for her county violence prevention agency, a member of the National and North Carolina Coalitions Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault to name a few. Anny is a firm believer that EVERY female regardless of age, has the absolute right to know how to protect and defend herself and deserves the knowledge to do so. It is her mission (along with other Personal Defense Readiness Certified male instructors) to reach out and help as many females as humanly possible teaching and training these valuable skills. As a child, Linda lived in an upper-middle class family. Her mother an educator, her father a research scientist of entomology with the USDA for 33 years--a man abused by his wife. No one, in the family, ever spoke of the violence. Even today, the subject is taboo. Later in life, Linda marched down the aisle entering a sadistically abusive relationship. For six years, she was abused and beaten by a sociopath. When Linda found the nerve to leave, she was harassed, stalked and threatened. After the divorce, her abuser remarried only to continue the same sadistic behavior. Linda has a permanent restraining order and has learned to protect herself. The perpetrator remains free.
