First, let say that February is very important to note.  There was no "Hybrid Jazz" during January as yours truly sorts out the specifics of a move back North.  But THIS month focuses on "Black History" and I couldn't miss the opportunity to showcase RICH Black talent that you might not otherwise hear.

Reggie Pittman is our first guest during these 28 days.  On trumpet, flugelhorn, piano and vocals, this pro has been thrilling crowds for three decades and more.  A Cleveland, Ohio, native, Reggie started young and he never stopped.  What is brilliant about him - besides his playing - is that he calculated his educational moves.  A Bachelor's in Music Education at Kent State; a Masters in Music Technology at New York University; teaching certificates in New York, New Jersey and Ohio.  See what's happening here?  He planned it so that he'd never be OUT of work :)

This gifted man has a resume that would leave you exhausted!  His TV and movie credts, Broadway and national stage runs, and the Who's Who that have shared the stage or studio with him.  Among them: Aretha, Babyface, Lionel Hampton, Eddie Palmieri, Natalie Cole, O'Jays, Sarah Vaughan (!!!) - and more.  Guess all I need to tell you is that Reggie has been a soloist with the Duke Ellington Band at Carnegie Hall.  THAT is some kinda prestige!

The reason for this visit: to make you aware of "Smilessence."  This is the second album by the Reggie Pittman/Loren Daniels Quartet.  The first, "Point To a Point" garnered HIGH praise and this one is doing the same.  Though Reggie does other work via other bands and projects, it's the collaboration of our focus on the next "Hybrid Jazz" that will make YOU sit up and take notice.  And our guest deserves every OOOH and AAAH coming his way :)
