Terror in Orlando: Death at the Hands of an Extremist
On this past Sunday (June 12, 2016), a heavily armed man entered a packed nightclub, killing 49 and wounding 50 people, as he pledged allegiance to the Isis, before he was killed in a hail of gunfire. This deadly event is marked as the deadliest shooting spree in U.S. history.
As more information filtered in about the shooter, Omar Mateen, age 29, it was found that law enforcement had investigated Mateen in 2013 and again in 2014 regarding terror threats, but not enough evidence was found for them to label him a threat.
There are a number of questions that loom regarding this event: How are our young men being turned into extremist monsters? How did law enforcement miss the mark on this shooter? Could this senseless reign of terror had be stopped? Could a more in-depth investigation have saved the lives of 50 innocent club-goers? These and many more questions…
