Let's discover what our bodies need to become strong and function as God created us to thrive. We can "do all things through Christ who gives us strength." Philippians 4:13 With the pandemic of Chronic Disesases, it is quite clear that mans medicine is losing the battle against disease. Therefore, it becomes quite obvious that we must equip ourselves with Divine instruction to wage war and defeat the battle of disease. God's Universal Prescription for all mankind are The 8 Laws Laws of Health. We need to give God a chance to aid us in conquering chronic diseases. After all, He alone is the Great Physician. His prescription is FREE. We only need to routinely apply it in our daily life's. Many of us have taken and are currently consuming man's medicine, depending on it alone. God's word has promised us, that, "We are fearfully and wonderfully made...". What a Powerful word from God about you and me. It tells us that our bodies are designed to conquer disease, not yield to disease! We have the means in us all, given to us, by the Great Physician. Let's claim His words! His words are just and true! it is NOT HIS WILL THAT WE ARE DYING! He has given us the Universal Prescription for All mankind, The 8 Laws o Health: Nutrition, Exercise, Water, Sunlight, Temperance or Self-Control, Air, Rest, and Trust In God. We must adopt God's Prescription into our life's, that we will see the transforming of our bodies into health, just as the Master Physician designed. Join me Tuesday's at 6pm for more discussion on God's 8 Laws of Health 00:05:00HealthyChoiceswithParrinohealth,Healing,diabetes,chronic disease, weight lossLet's fight back against deadly and debilitating diseases, like Type 11 diabetes. Poor nutritional choices, fast food has replaced healthy wholesome home cooking. Daily exercising has been replaced with video games, internet, social media, and other forms of entertainment that require primarily sitting and watching. Inadequate consumption of water, which has been replaced with soda, sugary drinks, sports drinks, tea, and coffee. Also, insufficient exposure to daily sunlight is apparent, many exposure's to sunlight is leaving to work and school, then coming home again when sunlight is inadequate. Over eating and drinking is apparent when we consider the epidemic proportions of childhood and adult obesity. Little experience fresh air due to long hours at work, computer usage, and simply sedentary lifestyles. Few experience proper rest, at least 7 to 8 hours daily. And we all need to trust in God, avoiding worry and stress, believing he will supply all our needs. 00:28:00HealthyChoiceswithParrino#lupus,#health,#exercise,#arthritis,#PainMay 2016 is Lupus Awareness MonthLet's Talk Lupus!http://www.blogtalkradio.com/healthychoiceswithparri/2016/05/09/lets-talk-lupusHealthhttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/healthychoiceswithparri/2016/05/09/lets-talk-lupus/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/healthychoiceswithparri/2016/05/09/lets-talk-lupusMon, 09 May 2016 22:00:00 GMTLet's Talk Lupus! Many in today's society are dying and suffering disability prematurely primarily because of poor lifestyle choices. Firearms are the leading cause of homicidal death among black teens in this country. About 500 children are killed in firearms accidents each year, many with their parents' guns. Almost 16 million teens have witnessed some form of violent assault. About one in eight people murdered in the United States each year are younger than 18 years of age. Research shows a link between violent television programs and aggressive behavior in teens who watch those programs. A gun in the home is more likely used to kill a family member or friend than to kill an intruder. Talk to your teen about ways to solve arguments and fights without weapons or violence. Limit the amount of television your teen watches to 1 to 2 hours/day (including music videos and video games). If something violent comes on the TV, talk about what is wrong with the program. Be a role model by handling problems in nonviolent ways. Don't carry a gun. This sends a message to your teen that using guns solves problems. Make certain your teen does not have access to guns. If you have a gun, remove it from your home or store it unloaded and locked up, and store bullets separately. Tell your teen to stay away from guns in homes of friends where he or she may visit or play. Keep in mind that teens are attracted to, and see guns as symbols of power. Since you can't always count on teens to stay away from guns, you have to keep guns away from them. © American Medical Association - used by permission. 00:46:00HealthyChoiceswithParrinoGangs,Violence,Guns,Teens,African-AmericanGun Violence in the United States - There are more than 211 million firearms in the United States, 71 million of which are handguns. Black youths ages 15 to 19Stop the Killing - Put down the Guns! Is too much of a good thing really a good thing? “Dieting is a $52 billion industry with a 92% failure rate,” says Ronda Bokram, a registered dietician in Michigan State University’s Health Education Department. “It’s an industry built around the fear of obesity. People are so afraid of becoming fat—the word has such a stigma attached to it—that the idea of food becomes all-consuming. To avoid being labeled as fat or obese, many students here and many people in general start restricting themselves to certain foods, or start working out for three hours a day. Wellness goes by the wayside when food gets that much attention." Dr. Lynn Rossy, a health psychologist who teaches a series of “Eat for Life” classes at the University of Missouri encourages us to use the acronym “BASICS” to deliver messages about intuitive eating. It stands for Belly check, Assess your food, Slow down, Investigate your hunger, Chew your food thoroughly & Savor your food. We can all play an important part in stopping the madness propogated by our culture of dieting, bodily discontent and the prevailing belief in a quick fix. We can start by giving food less weight! Adult obesity rates have increased in 16 states in the past year, with 12 states now reporting 30% of their populations as obese. The highest obesity rates are in the South, where fried foods are eaten in abundance. Following Mississippi, the most obese states are Alabama, West Virginia, Tennessee and Louisiana. Only one state in the nation, Colorado has an adult obesity rate below 20% — but at 19.8%, just barely. Former Surgeon General David Satcher says a total of 190 million Americans are overweight or obese. And he outlines the most important facets of the “epidemic”: associated health problems that are on the rise, from Type 2 diabetes to cancer; bloated health-care costs; and “food deserts” where largely poor communities have little access to healthy food. As in previous years, the report showed that lower-income groups and minorities tend to have more widespread obesity. Type 2 diabetes rates in 11 states and the District of Columbia have risen in the past year, and all but four states have seen increases in rates of high blood pressure in recent years. Today, every state has hypertension rates over 20%, with nine over 30%. The reports authors warn against viewing the problem as a series of personal failures. “We need a combination of opportunities that will make healthy choices easier, on the food front and the activity front.” “There’s always going to be an element of personal responsibility, but even when people are motivated, if you live in a neighborhood where the only food that’s available is high-density fast food, it’s going to be very hard to carry through on that personal commitment.” [www.naturalsociety.com] Call 213.816.0358 or log in to BTR. 00:46:00HealthyChoiceswithParrinoHealth and wellness,Obesity,Nutrition,Fat,Southern habitsThe fifth annual “F as in Fat” report put out by Trust for America’s Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation shows that America is getting fatter. High-fructose corn syrup, sometimes called corn sugar, has become a popular ingredient in sodas and fruit-flavored drinks. In fact, HFCS is the most common added sweetener in processed foods and beverages. Given how ubiquitous HFCS is, some people are concerned about possible adverse health effects. Although HFCS is chemically similar to table sugar (sucrose), concerns have been raised because of how HFCS is processed. Some believe that your body reacts differently to HFCS than it does to other types of sugar. Some research studies have linked consumption of large amounts of any type of added sugar — not just HFCS — to such health problems as weight gain, dental cavities, poor nutrition, and increased triglyceride levels, which can boost your heart attack risk. Recommendations from the American Heart Association say that most American women should consume no more than 100 calories a day from added sugar from any source, and that most American men should consume no more than 150 calories a day from added sugar, and even less is better. That's about 6 teaspoons of added sugar for women and 9 for men. It's prudent to consume any added sugar only in moderation. Consider these tips to cut back: Avoid sugary, nondiet sodas. Drink water or other unsweetened beverages instead.Choose breakfast cereals carefully. Although healthy breakfast cereals can contain added sugar to make them more appealing to children, skip the non-nutritious, sugary and frosted cereals.Eat fewer processed and packaged foods, such as cookies, cakes and some microwaveable meals.Snack on vegetables, fruit & whole-grain crackers.00:46:00HealthyChoiceswithParrinoHealth and wellness,Nutrition and food,Sugar,Diabetes Type II,High fructose corn syrupHigh Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) - how sweet it ain't! Ductal carcinoma, the most prevalent type of breast cancer, starts in the ducts that move milk from breasts to nipples. Lobular carcinoma starts in the lobules that produce milk, which may be invasive or noninvasive “in situ.” Invasive means it has spread from the milk duct or lobule to other breast tissues. Ductal carcinoma in situ is breast cancer in the lining of the milk ducts that has not invaded nearby tissues & may progress to invasive cancer if untreated. Lobular carcinoma in situ increases risk of invasive cancer in the same or both breasts. Many breast cancers are sensitive to estrogen, which causes the tumor to grow from estrogen receptors on the cell surface. Some women have HER2+ breast cancer from a gene that helps cells grow, divide, and repair themselves. When cancer cells have too many HER2+ gene copies, they grow faster; are more aggressive & recur more often. Risk factors you cannot change: Women over 50, having a relative who has had breast, uterine, ovarian, or colon cancer, defects in the BRCA1 & 2 genes(80% chance) & those who menstruated before age 12 or menopause after age 55 increase risk. Other risk factors include: Drinking 2+ glasses of alcohol/day, taking HRT with estrogen for several years, never had children or only after age 30, however, being pregnant more than once or young reduces risk. Obesity has been linked to breast cancer, although controversial. If you received radiation during breast development age, the younger you started radiation and higher the dose, the higher your risk. Early breast cancer usually does not cause symptoms, but symptoms of advanced breast cancer may include: Bone & breast pain, skin ulcers, arm swelling (next to the cancerous breast) & weight loss. 00:33:00HealthyChoiceswithParrinoHealth,Wellness,Breasts,African-American Women,CancerBreast cancer is uncontrolled growth of breast cells. 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed, are 100 times more likely to get breast cancer than men, but men can get bWaging War Against Killer Cravings!(Part Two)http://www.blogtalkradio.com/healthychoiceswithparri/2011/05/10/waging-warCaregivinghttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/healthychoiceswithparri/2011/05/10/waging-war/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/healthychoiceswithparri/2011/05/10/waging-warTue, 10 May 2011 03:00:00 GMTWaging War Against Killer Cravings!(Part Two)Killer Cravings are from foods full of artificial tastes that are contrived to stimulate 9,000 taste buds into sending pleasure signals to the brain. Like an addict demanding drugs, the body craves sugar, salt and fat. Foods like strawberries and bananas don't cause cravings. You never hear little voices in the back of your head saying, “eat, and eat cantaloupe”, because natural foods balance the body and physical cravings are caused by biochemical imbalance. Salt, saturated fat, refined starch and refined sugars cause cravings because they imbalance the body's chemistry and cause dependency on unnatural substances. In a desperate attempt to maintain homeostasis or chemical balance, the body demands the very thing that caused imbalance. Consumption of massive amounts of sugar, salt, caffeine or fried foods drastically affects homeostatic balance. Natural hunger becomes distorted as the body craves for the substances necessary for balance & powerful cravings override the body’s natural needs. The brain has 100 billion neurons and 100 trillion connectors for memory alone. Each brain cell is dependent on homeostatic balance to function properly. High doses of sugar, salt, fat and caffeine can cause imbalances in the brain’s normal chemistry. However, early diagnosis often leads to a complete cure. Almost all colon cancer starts in glands in the lining of the colon and rectum. There is no single cause of colon cancer. Nearly all colon cancers begin as noncancerous (benign) polyps, which slowly develop into cancer. You have a higher risk for colon cancer if you: are older than 60, are African American of eastern European descent, eat a diet high in red or processed meats, have cancer elsewhere in the body or have colorectal polyps, have inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn's or ulcerative colitis), have a family history of colon cancer or have a personal history of breast cancer. What you eat may play a role in your risk of colon cancer. Colon cancer may be associated with a high- fat, low-fiber diet and red meat. Smoking cigarettes and drinking alcohol are other risk factors for colorectal cancer. Many cases of colon cancer have no symptoms. The following symptoms, however, may indicate colon cancer: Abdominal pain or tenderness in the lower abdomen, blood in the stool, diarrhea, constipation or other change in bowel habits, Narrow stools and weight loss with no known reason. With proper screening, colon cancer can be detected before symptoms develop, when it is most curable. 00:32:00HealthyChoiceswithParrinoHealth and wellness,Abdominal pain,Prevention,Colon cancer,African-americanColon, or colorectal, cancer is cancer that starts in the large intestine (colon) or the rectum (end of the colon). According to the American Cancer SocietyWaging War Against the Western Diet!http://www.blogtalkradio.com/healthychoiceswithparri/2011/04/19/tba Why is it that two people can consume the same high fat, high-calorie Western diet and one becomes obese and prone to diabetes while the other maintains a slim frame? “Specifically, the emerging view is that besides genetics, maternal impact on the developing brain is likely to be critical to imprint these feeding circuits thereby determining one’s vulnerability or resistance to obesity.” The study was supported by the National Institutes of Health and the American Diabetes Association. charset="utf-8" />]]> Why is it that two people can consume the same high fat, high-calorie Western diet and one becomes obese and prone to diabetes while the other maintains a slim frame? “Specifically, the emerging view is that besides genetics, maternal impact on the developing brain is likely to be critical to imprint these feeding circuits thereby determining one’s vulnerability or resistance to obesity.” The study was supported by the National Institutes of Health and the American Diabetes Association. charset="utf-8" />]]>Caregivinghttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/healthychoiceswithparri/2011/04/19/tba/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/healthychoiceswithparri/2011/04/19/tbaTue, 19 Apr 2011 03:00:00 GMTWaging War Against the Western Diet! The chance of getting prostate cancer increases as you get older. In the United States, most men with prostate cancer are over 65. This disease is rare in men under 45. Family history: Your risk is higher if your father, brother, or son had prostate cancer. Race: Prostate cancer is more common among black men than white or Hispanic/Latino men. It's less common among Asian/Pacific Islander and American Indian/Alaska Native men. Certain prostate changes: Men with cells called high-grade prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia (PIN) may be at increased risk of prostate cancer. These prostate cells look abnormal under a microscope. Certain genome changes: Researchers have found specific regions on certain chromosomes that are linked to the risk of prostate cancer. According to recent studies, if a man has a genetic change in one or more of these regions, the risk of prostate cancer may be increased. The risk increases with the number of genetic changes that are found. Also, other studies have shown an elevated risk of prostate cancer among men with changes in certain genes, such as BRCA1 and BRCA2. Having a risk factor doesn't mean that a man will develop prostate cancer. Most men who have risk factors never develop the disease.00:33:00HealthyChoiceswithParrinoHealth,Wellness,Prostate,Cancer,African-american menStudies have found the following risk factors for prostate cancer-Age over 65: Age is the main risk factor for prostate cancer. Yet the nation's number one killer can be found right on the American dinner table! Do you mean that what we eat causes heart attacks? Not everything. The main culprits are excessive amounts of fat and cholesterol. The underlying problem in coronary heart disease is narrowing, hardening, and, eventually, plugging up of vital arteries that supply the heart with oxygen. The process is known as atherosclerosis. For more information, we recommend: Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease By Caldwell B. Esselstyn, Jr., MD, Cleveland Clinic; Avery/Penguin Group, 2007 Based on the groundbreaking results of his 20-year nutritional study, Dr. Esselstyn explains, with irrefutable scientific evidence, how we can end the heart disease epidemic in this country by changing what we eat. People are born with clean, flexible arteries. They should stay that way throughout life. The arteries of many North Americans, however, are clogging up with cholesterol, fat, and calcium - a concoction that gradually hardens and eventually chokes off needed oxygen supplies.(Chiphealth.com/health_topics) "Heart disease before age 80 is our fault, not God's fault, or nature's will." --Paul Dudley White, M.D00:34:00HealthyChoiceswithParrinoHealth,Wellness,Nutrition,Heart,ExerciseHundreds of thousands of people die every year from heart attacks (coronary heart disease) without a murmur of protest from the public, the press, or governmentObesity in Our Community!
