IF NOT FOR A PURPOSE

There is no epiphany. No Big Bang. Nothing defines the exactness of ideas converging on a moment in time that captured the immense power of imagination, long before Einstein thought to give us context- far more important than knowledge! To what end was masonry brought into existence if not to build on a thread, to weave a tapistry that would excite the mind and stimulate the sense that possibility can be influenced. This was the mindset and this is the means to sharing the endurance of desire. To get there, required insight, self-examination without the caveats of narcissia, with the overbearing sense of power.  FM was a leap of faith, idea that men could be taught ideas they would not otherwise bring together that would render them capable of rising above the clamour. Not purpose itself but a formula enabling humanity to find purpose without ever imposing on the independence of thought. What was in the water?  Clearly thought control was an illusion of the dark ages. Because no one knows the thoughts of a man. Reason didn't give way to anarchy and chaos. It grounded people, knowing the difference between opinion and fact, subjective and objective. Did it make humanity smarter or did it provide another form of expression?  By extension, materialism the latest excurions into utopia has failed the test. So is it possible, masonry has had influence while avoiding political and religious retoric?  Not only possible but evidently a rare commodity. To succeed requires commiting to be tested. To find that threshold requires understanding so we study, we listen, we learn to conquer impatience. We find ourselves defined not from within, but by those around us. They raise impressions and we take them seriously. It is at the end of illusion and the beginning of substance where we find innocence has been replaced.
