You've heard me talk about discovery. As a little boy walking along the north shores of Prince Edward Island after a storm it was all discovery. Pockets full of them.  And I've shared with you the sense that process of Masonry is fluid discovery. But indulge me with a further observation.  It's hard to stay focused. Here is a perspective that helps us to sustain the effort we need. Imagine we are at the door of Hagia Sophie, standing there with anticipation. As we step inside, we are overwhelmed by an architecture unlike anything we have seen, designed to hold a respository of knowledge distilled from time and cultures of the world.  That's about when an inner voices begins its work. Am I excited? Do I like this? I don't know what to do? Do I pick up a book? What if I can't understand the ideas.  I don't like this anymore. It's sunny outside. I'm leaving and you can't stop me.  And so it goes when a man is unfamiliar with high level mentoring/coaching/instruction.  Standing before him with a raw talent, takes trust to place yourself in the hands of a man who can take you to the next level. Optimizing strenghts is only part of the training of a those that excel. Exposing weaknesses lets us know where we need to  compensate- perhaps with extra specific training targets to compliment your natural talents. That requires control of one's ego. Listening as someone points out where you are vulnerable is an ingredient not explained to most of us. Wondering how to be better tomorrow than we are today- facing inadequacy alone- that is a secret prison found in our mind palace. Until you give yourself your complete effort to be the man you know yourself to be. In Masonic parlance, he is confident, understated, inspirational, secure within himself. Content. Controlling the demons that a chessmaster knows too well, when triggered, will enable a man to defeat himself. Go back inside.Enjoy.
