Photobucket Author Liliana Badd is “A rambling soul, a restless mind,” as author/philosopher Emil Cioran described her in 1985, in Paris. “Sometimes, I enjoy imagining I am dead, arriving at the Heaven's gates and Saint Peter welcomes me. "Here you are, woman. What have you done with your life?" "I have tried hard, Saint Peter…and mostly, I let my soul ramble...." "And now, woman, where would you like to settle? Up or down? I will exceptionally allow you to make a choice." "Do you, really? If so, then, Saint Peter, please let my soul do what it can do best — just let it ramble." The soul of Liliana has several “lives” beyond her marriage which ended with her husband’s death in a 1999 shipwreck. Their bond endured through surviving a “lifetime” under the dementia of a communist regime, and the escape from behind the iron curtain onto France to build a new life under the Cold War. Liliana Badd miraculously escaped the 1977 Bucharest earthquake that killed thousands. At times she had “the weird feeling that historical events kept mercilessly intermingling with my personal life.” As Liliana “literally started my fifth life — at fifty-seven,” crossing the ocean alone with $25 in her pocket, a new continent entrapped her willingly through “determinism and free will.” Her present life is in the deserts of Las Vegas. “I love the desert — for me it is as pure as oxygen, as safe as a blessed oasis where I can banish the painful memories from my former life (lives)."
