The GOP Convention is taking place, and while I have watched a little (I'm not really into convention-watching like I was in my youth!), I must say, the only surprises have been pleasant surprises. While there is the usual--for any convention--gaffe, blunder, foul-up, technical difficulty, and mass criticism from mainstream media, this year it's basically been "fring" Left, vs. mainstream media, that has hurled the insults. Shock of shocks, CNN actually praised First lady Melania Trump. And President Trump praised and thanked them for their coverage!
In sports, there continues to be blow-back from B1G parents, athletes, and even some coaches and ADs. But the blow-back is no longer confined to "We would like some answers". No, the blow-back now includes cancellation of NON-football sports. And the job losses go beyond coaches and staffs for those sports. I am seeing people tweet about job loss. This includes behind-the-scenes media people, such as videographers, and even some staff reporters at smaller media outlets.
In that vein, B1G parents are organizing. And they're demanding answers, as well as what they call "structured discussion", with B1G Commissioner Kevin Warren. I'm starting to think Kevin Warren really might not last long in the job. Aside from his son still playing, a host of "initiatives" he has instituted--"get out the vote" campaigns, voter registration, etc.--are clearly political, and benefit the "sports" part of student-athlet in almost no form whatsoever.
We'll talk about this tonight at 6p Eastern, Wed. 8/26/2020. Please join me!
