Evangeline's Background: Born in Alexandria, VA and currently residing in McLean, VA, Evangeline is a proud younger sister to a brother and a sister, and, daughter of two loving parents.   As a child Evangeline played the violin and the piano in addition to soccer, swim, basketball and softball.  She was also a camp counselor and a babysitter. Evangeline was proudly raised as a member of the Greek Orthodox Church in Bethesda where she volunteers her time as a sunday school teacher.  Evangeline holds a BS in Business and a Minor in Management from Elon College.  Evangeline spent most of her career at Chevy Chase Bank as a Marketing associate and went on to earn her MBA from Johns Hopkins University. Evangeline practices Shotokan Karate and is currently a third degree black belt.  She competed in National, Pan American and International tournaments, taking the Gold in Women's Fighting in Brazil.  Evangeline currently operates her own Shotokan Karate club in Washington, DC and continues to teach in McLean.   Evangeline is happily married to Michael Emanuel, currently the Capital Hill Correspondent for Fox News.  Evangline and Michael are proud parents of two wonderful children, Savas and Tess, in addition to loving nieces, nephews, seven god-children and a friendly dog, Chester! Allen was selected as a scientist-astronaut by NASA in August 1967 as a member of the second group of science-astronauts. He served as mission scientist while a member of the astronaut support crew for Apollo 15 and served as a staff consultant on science and technology to the President's Council on International Economic Policy. From August 1975 to 1978, Allen served as NASA Assistant Administrator for Legislative Affairs in Washington, DC.   Returning to the Johnson Space Center in 1978, as a senior scientist astronaut, Allen was assigned to the Operations Mission Development Group. He served as a support crew member for the first orbital flight test of the Space Shuttle Columbia in April 1981 and was the "Capsule Communicator" during the reentry phase for this mission.
