On my fifth deployment I was injured in Mosul Iraq and two members of my team were killed. I began drinking heavily then upon my return to the states. May 7 2005 I was drinking and driving and flipped my car I was ejected and broke my neck at c6c7 making me a quadriplegic. As a result of my accident I spent 19 straight months in the hospital. When I finally went home I turned to drugs and alcohol to cover up my PTSD. My actions destroyed my Marriage and the people around me. The very woman that had helped to save my life in the hospital and had married me while I was still in the hospital was verbally abused for 6 years because I was not facing my PTSD. Thankfully God gave her the strength to divorce me this year and move on.  I was devastated but my Ranger brothers pulled me back from the brink and it motivated me to fight PTSD and help my brothers. That is why I have been on this journey this last month to motivate myself and my brothers, and without a doubt it is working...RLTW" Join us to learn how he is healing and what he 00:51:00GallantFewnoveteran,ranger,transition,ptsd,suicideTNAV is produced by GallantFew, Inc., a 501(c)3 nonprofit that helps veterans transition from active duty.  Our purpose is to prevent veteran unemployment, homeGallantFew's The New American Veteran Talk Radiohttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/gallantfew/2013/11/13/gallantfews-the-new-american-veteran-talk-radioMilitaryhttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/gallantfew/2013/11/13/gallantfews-the-new-american-veteran-talk-radio/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/gallantfew/2013/11/13/gallantfews-the-new-american-veteran-talk-radioWed, 13 Nov 2013 21:00:00 GMTGallantFew's The New American Veteran Talk Radio TNAV is dedicated to those who said “here am I - send me”. Our scheduled guest today is Ranger Veteran turned small business owner Dallas Barber.  His custom shop, DGB Fabrication and Customs produced the awesome machines pictured on this show page. A native southern Californian, Dallas grew up surfing and racing motocross.  Most of the men in his family were Veterans, with his step father an Army pilot and father a retired CSM with service in Korea, WWII and Vietnam.  Deciding to enter the military, he called his dad and asked him advice which was "go be an airborne Ranger, they're the baddest motherf****** around", so that's what Dallas did. After graduating from Ranger Indoctrination Program in April 2006, he served in the 2nd Ranger Battalion for two deployments then was selected for the TSE section (now known as RSTA - Reconnaissance, Surveillance and Target Acquisition).  After six years Dallas left active duty, and following stints in overseas contracting and an attempt at a small business in construction he decided to pursue his passion and mechanical inclinations and open a custom car shop.  Thus was born DGB Fabrication and Customs. Dallas says "This new endeavor has brought me great joy so far (a whopping 4 weeks). I now do what I love and get paid to do so.  With 2 kids, a wife and an overpriced Rottweiler, I'm right where I want to be". Today's special time and day episode features Max Martini.  Max has a special project in the works to raise awareness of the challenges that Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) pose to a Veteran. Will Gardner is the story of a homeless Iraq war veteran, suffering from Traumatic Brain Injury.  He "borrows" a Harley Davidson and takes a spirited motorcycle trip across the country reclaiming his life lost since his tour. 'Will Gardner' is a film script written by Max Martini.   The production will be donating 50% of profits to charities assisting veterans with TBI, PTSD and veterans that are homeless. Traumatic Brain Injury and PTSD plagues many of our young soldiers.  The numbers increase every day as more and more men and women in uniform come out in search of assistance.  Our intention is to raise awareness to these ailments and to the reintegration program from combat back into society.  If we send these brave young men and women off, volunteering their lives for our freedom, we believe it is our duty to take care of them upon their return home.  We know that our little movie can do so much to help raise this awareness if it reaches enough people. Follow us on Twitter @Maxifrage for updates on our Kickstarter campaign, the movie and the progress we are making raising money for our soldiers in need.  you can also friend Max Martini on Facebook. 00:28:00GallantFewnoveteran,TBI,PTSD,max martini, the unitGallantFew, Inc. is a 501(c)3 dedicated to reducing veteran unemployment, homelessness and eliminating veteran suicide. Team Rubicon unites the skills and experiences of military veterans with medical professionals to rapidly deploy emergency response teams.   Since its creation in January 2010, TR has saved and helped thousands of lives – in Haiti, Chile, Burma, Pakistan, Sudan, and here at home. TR reaches victims outside the scope of where traditional aid organizations venture; victims on the fringe. TR Engages Veterans. Hundreds of US military veterans, many returning home after fighting ten years of war, find a renewed sense of purpose for their skills and experiences through TR. TR pioneered a new disaster response paradigm while redefining the meaning of veteran reintegration into society. On the streets of Port-Au-Prince, in the immediate aftermath of the Haiti earthquake, TR’s military veterans had an epiphany – natural disasters present the same problems troops face in Iraq and Afghanistan: unstable populations, limited resources, horrific sights, sounds and smells. The skills cultivated on those same battlefields – emergency medicine, risk assessment/management, teamwork and decisive leadership – invaluable in disaster zones. GallantFew, Inc is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that is committed to reducing veteran unemployment, homelessness and suicide.  Our priority is Project Darby - a focus on the US Army Ranger veteran.  Our nationwide network of Ranger veterans form mentors that help our newest veterans achieve a peaceful and successful transition. www.gallantfew.org 00:56:00GallantFewnoranger,transition,ptsd,mentoring,sdvosbScheduled guest is Cal Verdin, of Team Rubicon.
