Paul's nurturing nature, his heart connection, is exactly what any convert needs to remain "on course" when difficulties swirl around him; especially if those difficulties arise because of his allegiance to Jesus. Paul was like a "nursing mother" and an "exhorting father" as he prepared his "children" to face an ugly world.
Just like the Jews in Judea persecuted Jewish Christians among them; so also was the circumstance of the Thessalonian Christians. They were being ill-treated by their country-men, too. Their steadfastness in the face of this hardship evoked high praise from Paul: "My crown of exultation!"
