In a six-year project, Mary and Richard Bentz pursued a goal of uncovering the fates of the crew of the USS Grunion, a Gato-Class submarine sunk by the Japanese during World War II in the Aleutian Islands. Along with other “sub ladies” they found most of the relatives of the missing crewmen, while memorializing them, arranging for Purple Hearts for the families, and even conducting a memorial service at the site of one of the Grunion’s sister ships on Lake Erie.

Host John Wesly Nobles is one of those survivors, as his father was one of the crewmen to go down with the Grunion. Come hear the fascinating story of the Grunion’s demise, and listen to the authors talk about their book “We Remember Them.” We also expect to hear from Peter Stevens, author of “Fatal Dive: Solving the World War II Mystery of the USS Grunion.”

In a departure from our usual format, we would like to hear from callers who have lost loved ones while serving in the US Armed Services. Our guests on Wednesday will bring a new dimension to what it means to be a survivor of a lost service member.

Fair Tax Time is brought to you commercial free each Wednesday evening, 6PM Pacific time, 9PM Eastern, by the host John Wesley Nobles. You may listen on your computer or on your phone. Dial (619) 393-6478 or, if you’re charged for long disance, use our toll-free line: (888) 436-1206. Just follow instructions when the nice British lady answers.
