DuBois looked into the future he wondered if there would be Black people there?  Certainly, in the science fiction of his time, from Jules Verne, to the John Carter on Mars stories, to Flash Gordon rarely if ever were people of color included (unless they were aliens!).  Dr. DuBois tried his hand at remedying that with a science fiction story of his own: The Comet, written in 1920.  Since that time, Black Americans and Africans of the Diaspora, including many on the Mother Continent of Africa, have engendered a 21st century explosion in Black Science Fiction, and many of those writers and filmmakers in the genre have been women such Octavia Butler, Tananarive Due, Nnedi Okarafor and one of my special guests this time on "Face-to-Face on Facebook"!  My guests include prolific science fiction writer: VALJEANNE JEFFERS - and JARVIS SHEFFIELD, founder of the Black Science Fiction Society and editor-in-chief of the Genesis Anthologies of Black Science Fiction. Ken also worked as co-host for a daily newser for Gannett Media; hosted and co-produced my program: PowerPoint Radio, on National Public Radio, and was a foreign correspondent for NPR in South Africa. Ken also ventured into book publishing with his company Lion House Publications. Kenny lived for several years in South Africa and recently returned to the USA for a successful kidney transplant.
