Known as the “Mistress of Soul”, Jayna Blackwell has been singing since she was four years old. Singing first in church, you could often find her in the youth and young adult choirs of various local churches. While still holding on to her gospel roots, Jayna began singing R&B professionally in the early 90’s and she hasn’t stopped. Her eclectic musical taste and style has enabled her to develop a voice that includes genres such as R&B, Funk, Jazz and even Rock & Roll.
Jayna credits her first band; ThrillTrain for opening her up to singing Rock & Roll and credits Mr. Barron Edwards for strategically placing her in his Motown Revue Tribute Show and his R&B show band, forcing her into an exciting new world of professional singing.
The year 2014 marked a career turn for Jayna as she was again nominated and awarded the “Best Neo-soul Performer” by the Bay Area Black Music Awards and was signed and also made the First Lady/President of the record label “Curency Kingz Entertainment” (CKE) by the label’s CEO, Kenneth Christian.
She has since been nominated and honored with many accolades and her newest single “That’s My Song,” which is her first to be nationally promoted, features Ken’Yaun, was just released by C-Town Records a hot Hip Hop & R&B independent label based out of Cleveland, Ohio and distributed worldwide by Centurian Music Group
"The single is doing great!," responds C-Town Records CEO Gregory Beasley in Cleveland, by phone.
Jayna is currently in the process of recording her freshman album “Uncompromised”. The future looks very bright indeed and Jayna Blackwell The "Mistress of Soul" is looking forward to forging new industry alliances…
