During this broadcast we will introduce the Global Peace Foundation (GPF), a Washington, DC based Think Tank and the Coalition for American Renewal, one of GPF's strategic initiatives for renewing America as the world's greatest nation.   The Global Peace Foundation celebrates and promotes the vision of One Family Under God through building interfaith partnerships, strengthening families and communities, and fostering a culture of service and peace. Together, interfaith, family and service form the trifold platform of GPF, providing essential elements and a balanced approach for effective peace-building.  These three pillars are imbedded into all GPF related programs.  Learn more about the Global Peace Foundation by visiting www.globalpeace.org Our distinguished guests are Mr. Alan J. How a father treats his daughter will shape how she views herself and how she expects to be treated by other men for the rest of her life. One of the most important lasting effects of women having healthy relationships with their fathers is a strong sense of self-worth as she matures. As a girl gets older, father-connectedness is the number one factor in delaying or preventing pre-marital sex and drug or alcohol abuse. This broadcast segment of "EMPOWERING MEN" addresses the provocative topic "ONCE INCARCERATED - NOW LIBERATED!"  Men of all races and ethnicities are being incarcerated in increasing numbers across the United States. Once released from prison, are they destined to return as a repeat felon or will they become successful members of society? Despite the societal stigma and institutionalized obstacles experienced by men who have been released from the penal system, many have successfully assimilated back into the mainstream and become functional, productive, and influential members of American society.  What are the critical success factors?  The purpose of this broadcast is to interview men who were once incarcerated, now liberated, become successful, and making a positive impact to enhance the lives of others. They have succeeded against insurmountable odds. These societal role models need to be showcased and their voices heard. How have these children been impacted and influenced by the trauma associated with visiting parents who are incarcerated within America's penal system? The dialogue will focus on the sociological, psychological, economic, educational, and political implications of growing up in America with incarcerated parents. Today's special guest is Mr. Devon Wade who is a graduate of Louisiana State University with degrees in Sociology with a concentration in Criminology and in African & African American Studies with honors. Devon’s passion is youth advocacy, and he has traveled across the country speaking at prisons, providing motivational and keynote addresses, and attending conferences on the effects of parental incarceration. Devon’s own past of having both parents incarcerated during his youth has served to motivate his current research interest in how parental incarceration impedes children of offenders’ educational interest and outcomes. Moreover, Devon is interested in the substantive research areas of race, education, crime and urban space. Devon is an awardee of the prestigious Ford Foundation Predoctoral Fellowship and the Truman Scholarship. He is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in sociology at Columbia University.   The host of "EMPOWERING MEN" is Minister Thomas Ryer, Executive Director / Public Advocacy for the Men's Empowerment Network.   01:04:00MEN EMPOWERMENT NETWORKnoIncarceration,Men in Prison,Sociology and Criminology,Children,DepressionThis broadcast segment of "EMPOWERING MEN" addresses the impact of incarcerated parents on America's children.  During childhood and adolescence, many childrenTHE STIGMA AND DEPRESSION OF INCARCERATIONhttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/empowering-men/2012/11/17/empowering-men-for-greatnessSelf Helphttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/empowering-men/2012/11/17/empowering-men-for-greatness/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/empowering-men/2012/11/17/empowering-men-for-greatnessSat, 17 Nov 2012 20:00:00 GMTTHE STIGMA AND DEPRESSION OF INCARCERATION This broadcast segment addresses "The Stigma and Depression of Incarceration". Today's distinguished guests are Sheila Rule and Jason Davis.
