She teaches in two departments at John Jay College: Law, Police Science and Criminal Justice Administration (LPS) and the Interdisciplinary Studies Department (ISP).  Professor Kimora has achieved a number of accomplishments in the field of teaching and corrections. In 2012, the Princeton Review named Professor Kimora the second best professor in the United States. Professor Kimora’s areas of research expertise and publishing include: cognitive skills education, mental illness, ethics, and education trends and issues for those who are incarcerated.   Dr. Kimora is also Educational Director for Treatment and Prevention Services in El Rio at the Osborne Association, located in New York City. The author of numerous professional articles on corrections, Dr. Kimora was a contributor to Forensic Science Advances and their Application in the Judiciary System , edited by Larry Kobilinksy and Danielle Sapse. Dr. Kimora received her Ph.D. in Education from the University of Minnesota. Her published doctoral dissertation addressed the need for correctional education programs in America’s prisons and jails after conducting research with the Correctional Service of Canada in Ottawa and the Minnesota Correctional Facility in Lino Lakes, Minnesota. Today's special guest is Mr. Devon Wade who is a graduate of Louisiana State University with degrees in Sociology with a concentration in Criminology and in African & African American Studies with honors. Devon’s passion is youth advocacy, and he has traveled across the country speaking at prisons, providing motivational and keynote addresses, and attending conferences on the effects of parental incarceration. Devon’s own past of having both parents incarcerated during his youth has served to motivate his current research interest in how parental incarceration impedes children of offenders’ educational interest and outcomes. Moreover, Devon is interested in the substantive research areas of race, education, crime and urban space. Devon is an awardee of the prestigious Ford Foundation Predoctoral Fellowship and the Truman Scholarship.
