Dr. Jeanette welcomes Dr. Alan Shelton, MD, author of Life Beyond Burnout: Recovering Joy in Your Work to share his close encounter with the end of his profession life as he had created it.

Physician burnout is the crisis of patient and physician, now on a level of implosion.

Dr. Shelton, hung himself over the edge and took a step out of the profession he was so engrained in and recreated a life that he could help others on a daily basis and be true to who he was in the process.

Is burnout the loss of living in a world and working in a template that you feel engrained in? When does it start; in school, rotations, or after the first five years? Do you push on and 'get through it' at all costs? What are the costs to the physician, the system, or the patient?

What is the journey of physician recovery from burnout and how can you realize you are at the brink of change if you can just stop and listen?

Is the system, the patient, the rules, the technology and the challenges pushing the physician to the end of the road; is it now time to learn how to be a healer and recreate the way you engage with those who need your help the most?
