For White Americans, the Fourth of July represents freedom in all its forms. But for Black Americans, thay same holiday means nothing more than a day off from work. Freedom, as White Americans enjoy it, is a notion predicated on the continuous, systemic subjugation of Black Americans at every turn--educationally, financially, and legally.

What, then, does this holiday celebrate? And to whom does this freedom apply
