A disciplinary panel suspended his license on Friday after it filed its third complaint against him. The panel says it found evidence that Maat engaged in a pattern of alcohol consumption while continuing to practice medicine. This after two other complaints over the years -- one citing a history of alcohol abuse -- and for showing an increased potential for harm to the public. Also gaining more attention and emphasis in recent years is the impact that medical errors have on health care providers, deemed the “second victim.”  It is said that health care professionals involved in medical errors oftentimes are greatly affected both emotionally and personally.  Feelings of isolation, shame, guilt, anger, loss of confidence, loss of empathy, and depression are all possible responses.  As I read the several articles about second victims it was clear that the medical industry wanted people to feel sorry for them. HB4, HJR3, Proposition 12, HB3, and CSHB4 CAPS ON NON-ECONOMIC DAMAGES In many states around the country; caps were authorized by the legislature to set limits on non-economic damages in medical and other liability cases.  Many people across this country do not even know what “TORT Reform is and never heard of Proposition 12, A/K/A HJR3. The Legislature’s authority to limit non-economic damages would apply regardless of whether the claim or cause of action arose or was derived from common law, a statute, or other law, including tort, contract, or any other liability theory or combination of theories.  The claim or cause of action would include a medical or health-care liability claim, as defined by the Legislature, based on a medical or health-care provider’s treatment, or other claimed departure from an accepted standard of medical or health care or safety that caused or contributed to a person’s actual or claimed disease, injury or death. This bill was voted on in the Senate and the House, passed by a 2/3 vote, filed with the State and went into effect on September 1, 2003.  The voters didn’t vote until September 13, 2003.  This was just a formality.  Tune in for the next weeks to see what else they put on the ballot that you did not see. BELIEVE IT DOCTORS WITH CRIMINAL OFFENSES Nearly 1,000 doctors and surgeons have criminal records came across the wire from the Telegraph Media Group Limited in the United Kingdom. Prompted calls from patients began to flood into the newspaper with complaints of doctors past and present offenses.  It was said that none of the 927 physician’s information was available to the public.  Out of the 927 doctors, 25 had convictions of bodily harm and three for grievous bodily harm, while three were caught in possession of indecent images of children.  Other offenses included attacking their partners, harassment, weapon possession, threats to kill, perverting justice, fraud, kerb crawling-the act of driving slowly along the edge of the pavement seeking to entice someone into the car for sexual purposes. What!!!!!!!!!!!! In 1988 I was given a beautiful 3 lb. baby girl who when she entered this world was not breathing.  The doctors immediately hooked up to oxygen and IV’s and she stayed that way for 3 months.  I had to bring her home on oxygen and a ventilator, but I also was told that in order for me to keep her alive I would have to take different size tubings and place them through her nose down into her esophagus to keep it dilated so she would continue to breathe. I had to do that for one year.  She was sent home with a g-tube because she could not be fed by mouth, and it would leak stomach acid and burn her skin.  I made the doctors remove it and I used a syringe to feed her with to teach my daughter how to suck since she didn’t know how because of being intubated so long.  Jocelyn ended up having 125 surgeries and she survived, but there were times where she stopped breathing.  This was a hard pill to swallow especially since that was my first child.  What did I do so wrong I asked the Lord?  I know that I wasn’t as bad as some people?  And the Lord answered saying “MY GRACE IS SUFFICIENT” I asked God to remove the thorn, but instead he gave me a vision.  Through that suffering I wrote a book called “Can I Just Have a Little Bit?”  All I wanted was a little peace, a little grace and mercy.  What do you want? There are others out there just like me who have so much pain and don’t know what to do with it.  Kim Wuertz did the same thing I did, but her pain in to writing.  When you do that it takes your focus off your issues and begin to find solutions to your problems.
