Awakening the Sleeping Giant of Corporate Worship

It is written, “You shall worship the Lord your God,” Mt. 4:10. We are commanded to worship based on love for God & marked by a deep sense of longing & wonder. Acceptable worship involves a decision of will to seek the face of God actively. A worshipper expresses gratefulness, reverence & awe for God’s glory, worthiness & honor. While acknowledging God for what He has done, is doing & will do, the worshipper affirms who God is (& who we are because of Him).

When bereft of (or complacent in) corporate worship, the church is but a sleeping giant deprived of “terrible resolve.” She is, as it were, a valley of dry, lifeless bones, conquered &/or completely scattered by vultures. But there’s good news! Modeled in both Old- and New- Testaments, lifeless, sun-bleached bones can (& will) imbibe the breath of the Living God & rise from ineptitude & obscurity into an exceeding great army. Our premiere weapon of warfare is mighty to the pulling down of strongholds—namely, the fortresses of human reasoning, passion & pride. 

By employing the sole weapon of worship, the army of God is well equipped to win the victory. Best of all, most of all, God delights in our worship! Worship is a wonderful transaction in which the wealth of God's glory is magnified & the wants of our souls are satisfied. So, then, “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!”
