New York, NY – Every person has their own story or narrative. Often, people feel misunderstood or judged by others or dwell on the emotional trauma of their past. This experience can interfere with one’s overall functioning and may contribute to discomforting anxiety and depression. Relationships with family, friends and work are affected.

Dr. Lael Telfeyan is a psychotherapist specializing in adults, adolescents and children in individual, family and couples therapy. With offices in Manhattan’s Upper West Side as well as Great Neck, Dr. Telfeyan focuses on the strengths of each client to help them better cope with their difficulties, identifying their talents and skills to set goals and arrive at solutions.

“I’m dynamic and very enthusiastic about the people I work with,” says Dr. Telfeyan. “I have an uncanny, astute and intuitive sense I can read my patients very well. I think I have a unique ability to relate to people of all ages I’m very young at heart so I find it very easy to connect with people.”

Having received her doctorate in clinical social work from NYU, Dr. Telfeyan possesses considerable expertise in the areas of sexual abuse, child neglect, substance abuse and domestic violence. You name it, Dr. Telfeyan has seen it and she’s not afraid of it.

“My profession is very much about people’s resilience and their ability to tap into their internal and external resources,” says Dr. Telfeyan.  “So my approach is very strength-based. Everyone leaves their first session with one or two short or long term goals because it’s important for people to know what they want to accomplish and achieve, even if they are suffering from depression. It’s about helping people get back on the horse and start riding again.”
