What is your first image when you hear the word Shiatsu? Is it massage or that painful massage? This misconception is common says our guest, Katherine Powers who has had a Shiatsu practice for more than a decade. She goes on to tell us, “Shiatsu is a Japanese hands-on modality that uses much the same theoretical base as acupuncture and can address a myriad of issues such as, joint injury, recovery from surgery or the stress of going through a divorce….it assists and supports respiration, digestion, elimination, circulation, sleep…it calms the nervous system, promotes relaxation, grounding the client, calms anxiety and clears scattered thoughts…” This certainly throws a gentle, more loving light on this modality. Katherine says, "it can be a wonderful adventure for me as well…I learn so much working with each person. It is endlessly facinating.People may look basically the same on the outside but are o amazingly different on the inside”.
