He started is first wild horse sanctuary back in 1989 on a 35 thousand acre ranch in South Dakota. He learned the ins and outs of runnning a wild horse ranch after operating a cattle ranch. The Lazy B ranch was in the family for 3 generations. Alan also bought a 45,000 ranch in Nebraska, this one a cattle ranch. Then he bought the South Dakota ranch, so at one point in time he was running three ranches. Intersting discussion on how he had to fight the Federal government to create wild horse sanctuaries. That's an interesting story in itself. Alan is a great story teller.
