Let’s look at this, but first let’s look at some history. From 1900 to 1954, blacks were more active than whites in the labor market. Until about 1960, black male labor force participation in every age group was equal to or greater than that of whites. During that period, black teen unemployment was roughly equal to or less than white teen unemployment. As early as 1900, the duration of black unemployment was 15 percent shorter than that of whites; today it’s about 30 percent longer. I certainly don't see it that way. My impression is that it's about the way US society and the media deals with black crime victims , and black people who've been arrested who've died in police custody.    Republicans in my opinion, tend to not see race as a factor in many situations that many people of color do , or see discussions of race as unnecessarily stoking conflict.  Sometimes they may be right, but often they are minimizing or obfuscating. You'll get " black on black crime is what we should be talking about " " we don't see groups, we see individuals"  " oh, where is Al or Jesse? "  " it's easy , don't commit a crime,. Or if you're arrested , don't resist." Is The GOP wasting a golden opportunity to gain African- American support? Bills that pass one chamber have gained no traction in the other.  There will be plenty of collateral damage from the government shutdown that began early Tuesday — from federal workers to ordinary citizens — but the most serious effects are likely to be felt inside a Republican Party that is divided and in need of leadership.  On Capitol Hill, Republicans and Democrats traded accusations for Congress’s failure to find a way to fund the government for two more months — an act that, even if it had been done, would hardly be something to crow about. Several amendments to the defense spending legislation were proposed, many of which were approved either by voice vote or en bloc. The first method of voting requires no report on how individual members voted, while the second method aggregates amendments, allowing them to be voted on in groups.  A few of the amendments represent significant improvements to the NDAA of 2012 and 2013. The acts passed for those years infamously permitted the president to deploy U.S. military troops to apprehend and indefinitely detain any American he alone believed to be aiding enemies of the state.  While the 2014 iteration doesn’t go far enough in pushing the federal beast back inside its constitutional cage, there are at least a few congressmen willing to try to crack the whip and restore constitutional separation of powers and shore up a few of the fundamental liberties suspended by the NDAA of the past two years.  Join ABC and Germaine on this all new edition of Late Night with GGT (Break Free Monday).
