Carlene D. Heeter was born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana. She holds a Master’s of Science in Management degree from Indiana Wesleyan University. Married twenty-seven years, she and her husband Kevin have four children and five grandchildren. Carlene was stressed out and physically broken down from the abundance of suffering life continued to dump on her. The domino effect of the events left her weary and every time she thought she was over an emotional hump, another storm would come along and destroy her progress. She couldn’t focus on anything and had lost her desire to function. She fought one physical ailment after another, went through a bitter divorce, and found her second “dream marriage” on the rocks. Carlene faced the challenge of raising boys in a troublesome society. Despite her best efforts, her oldest son ended up incarcerated on what she felt was a bogus charge. Life had dealt her a bad hand with nothing positive in sight. Feeling like she had been cursed with a plague, no one could convince Carlene that she wasn’t the twentieth century Job, and just like him she was holding on to a tested faith and praying to God to fix things for her. She had to find a way to get out of this rut, or it was going to suck the life right out of her. This book is about one mother’s trials and tribulations and how God enabled her to carry on when all appeared hopeless. She shares her breakdown in faith and perseverance when she was powerless and her breakthrough. able to relate to many events in this book. Get your box of Kleenex ready because her story is guaranteed to make you laugh, cry, want to fight and even rejoice. 00:31:00church chatnobooks,AUTTHOR,writerAuthor talks about her book3716378f-0f0f-474f-bb04-a800081c324e17fullThe Theater and The Pulpithttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/church-tlk/2018/09/11/the-theater-and-the-pulpitReligionhttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/church-tlk/2018/09/11/the-theater-and-the-pulpit/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/church-tlk/2018/09/11/the-theater-and-the-pulpitTue, 11 Sep 2018 22:30:00 GMTThe Theater and The PulpitPastor Thomas Hill and Playwright Ethel McCane discuss their approach to have plays with spiritual messages.   And what ways are these two ways of spreading the Gospel different and at the same time similar?  Our panelists will discuss how they can congregation through the medium of the theater.    00:31:00church chatnogospel, theater, pulpit, congregationThe similarities and differences of theater and The Pulpit8129a6c9-4d34-4799-9d0d-709b3ee910f113fullFInances 2018http://www.blogtalkradio.com/church-tlk/2018/02/20/finances-2018Religionhttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/church-tlk/2018/02/20/finances-2018/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/church-tlk/2018/02/20/finances-2018Tue, 20 Feb 2018 23:30:00 GMTFInances 2018Elizabeth Thompson Parker is an independent financial contractor with a BBA in finance and economics.  She enhances her chosen field of expertise through the field of computer technology-specializing in the use of "Power Church Financial Software." An examination of any congregation of average Black church shows that single Black females fill the pews.  Results of a recent study “ African Americans and Religion” by the PEW Research Center’s Forum on Religion and Public Life found that “African Americans are markedly more religious on a variety measures than  the U. S.  population as a whole.” Almost 90% of  Black Americans express “absolutely certain belief in God” compared to just over 70% of the total U.S.  population,  Two other important statistics gleaned from this survey:  (1) 80% of Black Americans report that religion Is their lives as compared to 57% of the general U.S. population;  and 55% of Black Americans report that  they  “interpret scripture literally”  as compared to 32% of the general U.S. population. The PEW study also reported that “Men are significantly more likely than women to claim no religious affiliation,  Nearly one-in-five men say they have no formal religious affiliation, compared with roughly 13% of women.” Barbara Billingsley, Tara Billingsley, Erica George, Lydia Davis and Nycole Johnson discuss the topic.   00:31:00church chatnoSingle, church, womenThe Single Woman in the Black Church Black females have long been considered the backbone of the  Black community and the cornerstone oFeeding Ministry at Barnes United Methodist Churchhttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/church-tlk/2014/04/14/feeding-ministry-at-barnes-united-methodist-churchReligionhttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/church-tlk/2014/04/14/feeding-ministry-at-barnes-united-methodist-church/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/church-tlk/2014/04/14/feeding-ministry-at-barnes-united-methodist-churchMon, 14 Apr 2014 22:30:00 GMTFeeding Ministry at Barnes United Methodist ChurchThe Barnes  United Methodist Church Feeding ministry is discussed by Reverend Kenneth Scott, Kristy Robbins and Sheila Penn. 00:31:00church chatnoMinistry, feeding, churchThe Barnes  United Methodist Church Feeding ministry is discussed by Reverend Kenneth Scott, Kristy Robbins and Sheila Penn.FIRST LADIES of the CHURCHhttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/church-tlk/2014/03/10/first-ladies-of-the-churchReligionhttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/church-tlk/2014/03/10/first-ladies-of-the-church/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/church-tlk/2014/03/10/first-ladies-of-the-churchMon, 10 Mar 2014 22:30:00 GMTFIRST LADIES of the CHURCHFirst Ladies, Fawn Harrison, Krystal Peoples and Tonya Burris- Mallory discuss what it is like to be Pastors' wives... The wife does not do the work of the pastor, but the pastor and his wife are a team who are yoked together to do God's work. Too few recognize the reality of this and want to put the pastor's wife in a box and relegate her to keeping the home fires burning and prayer support for her husband. That certainly is her responsibility, but quite often the pastor's wife has gifts that can and should be used in the ministry. On the other hand, there are women whose husbands are pastors and they see it as "his" ministry and do not enter in to the work in any way. There should be a good balance between these two ideas with the goal of bringing glory to God in all things.  00:31:00church chatnowives, support, congregation, counsel, familyFirst Ladies, Fawn Harrison, Krystal Peoples and Tonya Burris- Mallory discuss what it is like to be Pastors' wives... Since its inception in 1999, the Indianapolis Ten Point Coalition(ITPC) has been a significant partner with the city of Indianapolis in the fight against violent crime. In the mid-90s the city of Boston Massachusetts was struggling with gangs and violence. Led in large part by Rev. Eugene Rivers other clergy, the Boston Community came together to devise a comprehensive strategy to address their violence problem. The result of this strategy reduced violence by two-thirds among youth in one Boston Community and the Ten Point Coalition was born. In 1998 Rev. Rivers introduced this strategy, which was sometimes know as pulling levers and later “Cease Fire”, to the Indianapolis community. Rev. Charles Harrison and Rev. Clarence Moore along with other clergy embraced the program and the ITPC was born. In ITPC’s first year three high risk neighborhoods were targeted:UNWA, Mapleton-Fall Creek and Haughville.. As a result of the program homocides were reduced by 40% . In recent years ITPC has also seen success in the fight against violent crime. In 2009, the homicide rate fell to a comparatively low rate of 100. In 2010 the homicide rate fell to a 15 year low of 96. ITPC has been credited by the office of Public Safety, IMPD, and the Far Eastside Action Coalition (FEAC) as playing a significant role in preventing and reducing the numbers.
