Recently I was challenged once again by what the Bible says. We are doing some talks on Ezra at our church showing us who the people of God are. In Ezra 3, the Jewish exiles return to Jerusalem, which has been totally destroyed. The first thing they do? You might expect clear up and start rebuilding – but no, they offer sacrifices in the way God told them to hundreds of years earlier on Mt Sinai after He rescued the Israelites out of Egypt. The people worship in the way God tells them to.   Christian Youth Radio Network the home for Worship and Bible topics that are affecting our Youth everyday goes live on the air Monday through Sunday. It will help you know God better Being a Christian is about being friends with Jesus. Its a real relationship just like the one you have with your best friend. Now in all relationships we talk and we listen to each other. And this is what reading the Bible and praying is all about.  When we read the Bible, we are listening to what God has to say to us (except it is written down like in a letter). In the Bible, God has made sure he has told us everything we need to know in order to be the best of friends with him. So when you pray and read, you are really having a good old conversation with God and that is definitely something worth doing every day! 2. It will help you grow in relationship with other Christians Finding a friend you can talk to about God's word can be a great encouragement. If you're both reading every day, you can push each other to continue when the other person is feeling less enthusiastic. If you go to a church, you might be able to find an older wise Christian person to read with. They may even be able to meet with you to read and pray. Or maybe you can meet with a friend at school.  As you sit together and chat about what you have read during the week, it provides a great opportunity to reflect and pray for each other as you strive to live for Jesus. 3. An important question for teens in non-Christian families.   Being at odds with your parents over anything is a hard place to be. It creates tension at home and it affects nearly every area of your life. But disagreeing with them over your faith takes that tension to a whole other level. When the choice is between honoring God and honoring your parents, how do you make that decision? Where do you even start? There are a couple of ideas to consider if you find yourself in this situation. It’s hard to imagine why anyone would want to take a punishment for something they didn’t do. But what if that punishment was death? Only Jesus could do that for us because He’s the only one who never sinned even once. When we behave badly and disobey God, we might wonder how God could ever love us. But God didn’t send Jesus to die in our place because we deserved it. No. It’s because of His great big love for us. He knew that Jesus would come to earth as a baby all the way back before Adam and Eve ever sinned. He knew you before you were born, too! He knew everything you were ever going to do and He still chose to send His Son Jesus to die for you. He even came to save people who may seem too bad for Jesus to help. You can talk to God and ask Him for His forgiveness and ask Him to help you forgive yourself too. Luke 19:10   Did you know that Jesus paid for all your sins over 2,000 years ago? This means you’re completely forgiven! God doesn't think about the bad things you've done, because Jesus took the whole punishment for your sin on the cross! Live for God today and stop living in your yesterday. Are you a bad person just because you’ve done bad things? No! Once you’ve received Jesus as your Savior, the only thing that matters is what God thinks about you! God doesn’t even see your sin or mistakes any more. Do you know what He thinks about you? Dig into the Bible to find out what God thinks about you! What He says is more important than what everyone else says about you! You can talk to God and tell Him thank You for forgetting all the bad things you’ve done in the past. You can ask Him to help you live for Him with all that you are. We want to hear from you. You aren’t good enough to be friends with God because you follow rules. You’re good enough because you believe in and trust the only One who is good: Jesus! God gave His people rules to show them the way life works best. He wanted them to learn that they could never be good enough without His help. God’s help is a gift called grace. Grace is a gift that can never be earned. We can’t earn God’s grace by working hard to please Him. He gives it freely. We aren’t strong enough to please Him by ourselves. God’s grace gives us the power to live free from sin. It’s because we put our trust in Jesus. Not because we’re good at following rules. There is quite a lot in the Bible about love. As a matter of fact — according toMatthew 22:34-40, every command that is written in the Bible stems from love! Either loving God, or loving your neighbour (that is, anyone and everyone that you come into contact with). It even tells us about the ultimate example of love in Jesus Christ taking the punishment we deserve by laying down his life for us so we can be forgiven for our sin. But perhaps the most well known passage about love is 1 Corinthians 13 where we get a list of all the things that define what love IS and what it IS NOT. What is lust? What is the difference? Did I see His hand in my life? I will do that. And then I will find a way to preserve that memory for the day. I testify that He loves us and blesses us, more than most of us have yet recognized. SHOWING KINDNESS TO OTHERS TALKING TO GOD Thank God for your family and friends. Ask Him to help you always treat other people with kindness. DIVING IN Before mealtime, have each family member gather five shirts. Any style will work. The idea is to have a stash of shirts to pull from. As you prepare for dinner — setting the table, filling drinks, serving food — kindly offer to help one another with tasks. You may also compliment a task well done: "Wow, Mom! This smells great." As you are kind to another member of your family, put on one of your shirts. The goal is to put on all your shirts. GOING DEEPER Each shirt you put on was a symbol of kindness you showed to a member of your family. You were demonstrating the action of Colossians 3:12. In that verse, God tells us to clothe ourselves with kindness. As you did and said kind things, you were showing kindness that comes from God. TALKING TO EACH OTHER - Tell about some ways other people have shown kindness to you - How can you show kindness? Why is this important? Ask Him to show you how to use your words carefully. DIVING IN Have each family member write down six words on a piece of paper: three kind words and three unkind words. Don't share your lists just yet. Fill two bowls with snacks. One bowl should have a sweet snack (candy-coated chocolate) and the other bowl a sour snack (lemon burst). Then, have each family member take a turn reading a word from his list. The others have to guess if it is a kind (sweet) or unkind (sour) word. When guessed correctly, everyone gets a candy-coated chocolate or lemon burst to "taste" the word. GOING DEEPER The words we use make a difference. Words can be sour, or they can be sweet. They can hurt feelings, or they can repair relationships. Words can build people up or tear people down. Because your words are powerful, you need to choose them carefully. In 1 Thessalonians 5:11, the apostle Paul urges believers to “encourage one another and build each other up.” When you choose kind words, you’re giving others a taste of God’s kindness, and that brings Him honor. TALKING TO EACH OTHER - Is it easier for you to think of kind or unkind words? Why? I urge you to find ways to recognize and remember God’s kindness. It will build our testimonies. The key to the remembering that brings and maintains testimony is receiving the Holy Ghost as a companion. It is the Holy Ghost who helps us see what God has done for us. Man doesn't get it. By nature, man tends to think that God is harsh and unkind. Nothing could be further from the truth.?? God is extremely kind, and incredibly loving. Many people simply don't "realize that God's kindness leads you toward repentance." The more we know God's goodness, the more we trust Him. The more we trust Him, the easier it is for us to put our lives into His hands. Only by placing our lives in His hands can we open the way for Him to save us, bless us and work through us, so that His wonderful will can be done on earth as it is done in heaven.GOING DEEPER Being kind is a choice. You make choices every day — some big and some small. Think about all the choices you've made in the last 30 minutes. Which food to eat first at dinner, whether to sit on the floor or stay in your chair for this devotion, and who to share compliments about — those were all choices. God wants you to choose to be kind. The Bible tells about a kind man named Boaz who shared his harvest by letting a poor woman named Ruth gather from his fields (Ruth 2:8). Sometimes kindness is a choice to share what you have with someone in need. Other times, it's a decision to encourage someone with a sincere compliment.TALKING TO EACH OTHER- Does God care about whether we are kind to others? How do you know? (Matthew 25:31-40)- What are some ways you can show kindness to those around you every day?Ephesians 4:32:Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.I urge you to find ways to recognize and remember God’s kindness. David experienced God's kindness, and he praised God for it, saying, "He reached down from on high and took hold of me" (Psalm 18:16).God's kindness may also affect many people in a particular way. God shows His kindness through the ongoing provision described in Acts 14:17: "He has shown kindness by giving you rain from heaven and crops in their seasons."God's kindness is part of His nature. It’s what makes you who you are; it's what makes you unique. Still, this can be hard to understand because many of us are still learning who we are each day.People may call us things like unpopular, or nerd. They may also call us nice things like pretty, or say we’re good at sports. But God says these things are not who we are. Other people do not choose our identity. God chooses our identity. He tells us who we are.You were made in the image of God. This is who you are to your very core. No matter what you like about yourself or don’t like about yourself, your identity is in God.He says that we are His creation; He made us how and who we are for a reason. But that’s not where our identity comes from. You are not what others say and think you are; you are what God says and thinks you are. You are not on your own; you belong to God. You are His, and always will be. People will always look at us on the outside. They’ll think who we are depends on how we look and whether we’re cool or not. Jonah was basically saying to God, "Look, I knew you were going to have mercy anyway, that’s why I didn’t want to go! You’re too compassionate." Jonah saw his mission as pointless & futile, but God didn’t! I see and understand Jonah’s perspective, especially from the position of getting annoyed when people abuse the ‘grace’ of God. But it’s not for us to get annoyed. Moreover, our annoyance should not infringe on our obedience to God’s instruction. Yes people abuse God’s grace…but I will still tell everyone about it! Because someone will be saved! Jonah was so dramatic…was it really that deep? Verse 3-4 made me chuckle. How can Jonah request to die!!! I imagine God saying to Jonah in today’s slang ‘is it really that deep?’ God’s grace transcends our human understanding. I love the way the message bible puts verse 4-11. God is saying to Jonah and to us; don’t get angry at what you didn’t work for! Jonah didn’t look at after plant, didn’t see it through its early days, and consequently allowed it to die. God used the plant to describe the city of Nineveh. He is saying that he wants to see that plant grow, live and not die. This chapter is a real wake up call to ‘Christians’ who consider other people unworthy of God’s grace. Please look back and remember the ‘amazing grace’ that saved YOU. Rejoice when people turn to God, because it means you have gained another sibling in the Lord. Be careful not to look down from a position of pride. Be careful not to be ‘selfish’ with your ‘saved’ status. (James 2:14). The people of Nineveh ‘believed’ God (verse 5), but that belief wasn’t enough. The KING of this great city fasted and used his authority to instruct everyone in the land to fast, call out to God, and put on sackcloths. They humbled themselves before God, physically showing their repentance. God’s grace existed in the Old Testament. Contrary to popular belief and lack of studying the Bible, we can see that God’s grace & mercy existed in the Old Testament! Grace is unmerited favour. Favour is receiving something you did not work for. Mercy is the withholding of what you do deserve! God’s mercy is evident in this chapter. Your obedience can save a nation. Repentance can save a nation. For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? (Romans 10:13-14 NKJV) And how shall they hear without a preacher? How will people hear about God if you do not tell them? How will people hear about God if we don’t support our missionaries & evangelists? How will people hear about God and be saved if you don’t grow in the faith, obey God and speak up? See how a city was saved because Jonah finally heeded to God’s instruction. If he really resisted…the blood of the city would be on his hands, he would be held accountable. The people of Ninevah would have perished for lack of knowledge! But thank God that wasn’t the case. Understand that the things God tells us to do, the thing He considers to be our purpose has a greater impact. Purpose isn’t just for you! (Psalm 119:71, NLT). Afflictions and storms cause us to be totally dependent on the only ANCHOR that can fight waves – GOD. There is a beautiful Hillsong Song called 'Cornerstone' and in one of the verses the lyrics are ‘My anchor holds within the veil’. This is the hope that every Believer has, that no matter the storm, our Anchor being God, will hold! Have Faith In The Prayers Made During Storm Jonah had faith that God heard his prayer and delivered him from his situation! From verse 1-2, I deduce that he believed his prayer was answered before he was ‘actually’ delivered. We need this type of faith, storm or no storm! We need to believe that God hears our prayers and will answer according to His sovereign will! Remember Jonah spent 3 days in that fish! Most of us would have given up after day one. Jonah persevered, seeking God’s answer, turning His heart to God’s temple and we should too! The Weeds Of The Mind And The Importance Of FELLOWSHIP Jonah said the weeds entangled his head. This intrigued me. Head=mind… Looking at the features of weeds: They are annoying plants, if you have a garden you’d know. Weeds are skilled in growing anywhere and everywhere that weed killer does not exist! Weeds grow aggressively! Those weeds are the negative maladaptive thoughts, cognitions that grow in the absence of the weed killer – The Word of God (John 1:1), God, Fellowship etc. "God’s Word is a sword, ‘shank’ every thought that is impure" as Jahaziel’s song says. Take captive every thought, don’t allow it to grow! Fellowship is so important. Lack of fellowship with others leaves you vulnerable on a spiritual level! The mathematics of the Bible shows how important fellowship is!   00:29:00Christian Youth Radio NetworknoLove,Jonah Challenge,Bible Study,Youth"My suffering was good for me, for it taught me to pay attention to your decrees." Here we see one of the first displays of God’s desire to see all nations saved and how He would do so through Israel! Down is never good when God is up! Notice that verse 3-4 says that Jonah went ‘down’ to Tarshish and ‘down’ to Joppa (which means beautiful- its actually our modern day Tel Aviv). Eventually he ended up down in the belly of a whale, which Jonah himself describes as ‘sheol’ which is another name for hell.  While the storm is going on Jonah was sleeping (Jonah 1:5). I imagine this is like sleeping during turbulence on a plane. What this shows is Jonah’s ignorance and desensitization to his disobedience. A trap many of us fall into! We sleep when we need to wake up and change. OBEDIENCE IS BETTER THAN SACRIFICE!! OBEDIENCE IS BETTER THAN ENDING UP IN A WHALE! 1 SAMUEL 15:22 Don’t deny God in the midst of your storm. In verse 9 we read Jonah’s first words, he states his identity and who he believes in, even in the midst of the storm… what can we learn from that? Even in our mess, don’t deny the God that you serve. For this is the one reason why in verse 16 we see that these men who served other gods now feared the Lord God Almighty and made sacrifices & vows unto Him. Without Jonah’s declaration, they wouldn’t have known. Jonah took responsibility for his disobedience (Jonah 1:12). In psychology there is something we call ‘Diffusion of Responsibility’ where everybody shares in the blame or the glory of a situation. There was none of that there because Jonah stepped forward and said cast me out for the sea to calm down.  00:30:00Christian Youth Radio NetworknoYouth,#JonahChallenge,Love,BibleJonah was a prophet to northern Israel, their enemies were the gentile nation of Assyria ‘Nineveh’ the great city and Jonah was given the unusual instruction frHow to Deal with Anger God's Way Part 3 of 3http://www.blogtalkradio.com/christianyouthradionetwork/2014/09/11/how-to-deal-with-anger-gods-way-part-3-of-3Christianityhttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/christianyouthradionetwork/2014/09/11/how-to-deal-with-anger-gods-way-part-3-of-3/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/christianyouthradionetwork/2014/09/11/how-to-deal-with-anger-gods-way-part-3-of-3Thu, 11 Sep 2014 22:30:00 GMTHow to Deal with Anger God's Way Part 3 of 3 Face the Truth... And Choose Your Pain if you want the great and mighty things God has for you, you must get to the root of anger and deal with it. Get rid of the masks and face the things that happened in your life that made you the way you are today. Admit that you can't change by yourself. Until the root is removed, it’ll continue to produce one bad fruit after another. Too often we spend our lives dealing with the bad fruit of our behavior, but we never dig deep enough to get to the root of the problem. Actually, when we're faced with anger, we must choose our pain. Digging deep to take care of the bad root is painful, but it’s the only lasting way to take care of the problem. We can either suffer positively, doing what’s right or we can go with the devil's plan. But remember, the same devil who tempts you to follow your human feelings will later condemn you for doing it. You must decide if you want the pain that will take you into a new realm of glory or to keep your same old pain and try to hide it while it's rotting inside you.  Is Anger Sin? Is all anger sin? No, but some of it is. Even God Himself has righteous anger against sin, injustice, rebellion and pettiness. Anger sometimes serves a useful purpose, so it isn't necessarily always a sin. Obviously, we’re going to have adverse feelings, or God wouldn’t have needed to provide the fruit of self-control. Just being tempted to do something is not sin.    Take Steps Toward Freedom People are born to be free; it’s a gift from God. We’re not to be free from responsibility, but free to be led by the Holy Spirit. Any time our freedom is taken away or given away, we experience anger.    00:30:00Christian Youth Radio NetworknoHow to deal with anger,Love,Youth,BibleFace the Truth... One of the primary roots of anger stems from the family. Angry people come from angry families because they learn from their role models and carry on the same behavior in their own lives, eventually passing it on to their children. Injustice—when people mistreat us but there’s nothing we can do about it, we get angry because we feel it isn't fair. As much as we’d like to change the situation or the person who’s treating us badly, we can't. People can't change people; only God can change people. So it's best to put our energy into praying for the offender. Impatience—often produces anger when we can't get what we want when we want it. When our progress is hindered or slowed down because of others, it’s easy to become impatient. Most of us struggle with impatience on a daily basis simply because of today's fast-paced world. Abuse of any kind—sexual, physical, verbal, emotional or mental abuse almost always leads to anger. They’re all injustices, which eventually leave the abused feeling helpless and angry. Abuse of any kind can’t be ignored. We must deal with it and process it before we can get free of it.Masks of Anger. Sometimes we use masks to cover up the things we don't want anybody to see. If we’re harboring anger, we think masking it keeps others from knowing the real us. So we hide behind a variety of masks in an attempt to trick people into thinking we're something or someone we're not. I’ve discovered that people respect you more if you share your real self with them rather than trying to hide everything.? It can be tough at times to know what to say when speaking with God. Prayer means truthfully talking and listening to God. It doesn’t have to be complicated. You don’t have to show off with big words. What’s most important is that when you talk to God, you speak to Him from your heart. Be honest and open; get to know Him like you would when you’re talking to a best friend. The more you pray and speak to God, the closer you’ll become to Him. And when you become closer to Him, you’ll know His love and know God better. Questions: How do you usually pray to God? What do you usually talk to Him about? Matthew 6:7-15 7 “And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words. 8Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.9Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. 10 Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread, 12 and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. 14 For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, 15but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. Romans 8:26 26Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.  00:30:00Christian Youth Radio NetworknoYouth,Christian Youth,Worship,Scriptures,Bible ClassHave you ever prayed out loud in front of other people? Each day we will  read a passage of Scripture Every day we talk to people--our family, our friends, and students in class. Is God a part of the list of people you talk to every day? Prayer is exactly that. It means talking and listening to God. People need to communicate in order to have a relationship with others. We talk to God in prayer every day so that we can have a relationship with Him. That’s why prayer is important. Even when people do pray and talk to God, they don’t always realize that God actually speaks back. He desires to be in constant communication with us throughout our days, weeks, and entire lives.
