Flying Backwards by, Nina Haines
What is it like to have a mentally ill son for whom treatment options are sometimes nonexistent and finding crisis intervention with real solutions an impossible task?  Nina Haines has written an honest memoir of her son, Jon's struggle with schizophrenia, the family challenges and heartaches in the context of a strong faith in Jesus Christ.  When violence erupts at the hands of seriously mentally ill persons Nina and Mark Haines understand that gun control is not the problem; rather the lack of treatment interventions and current laws which heartlessly disenfranchise mentally ill people, and the overwhelming financial burden.  Hear how one mother fought for a son's rights and health before his tragic death from suicide at age 24.

Dr. Suzanne Thomas: activist, author, psychologist

I don't read a lot of fiction, but I loved Suzanne's book, Stumbling Stone.  Suzanne has a degree in counseling psychology and is an expert on family dynamics associated with addiction.  She is the founder of WISE; the president of Pickwick Republican Women and is working on her second book, The Other Side of the Dream, nonfiction.  Susanne and I will discuss how families can better cope with addicted loved ones, her new book, and her Christian faith.  I plan to have Suzanne on the show several times over the next year.    ?
