When 3 year old Shaun was diagnosed with neuroblastoma- a particularly nasty form of cancer, only 600 children in the world will contract this form of cancer. Shaun, Liz and her whole family were impacted. Of course, you say, but they shook off the paralyzing fear and step up to the plate and advocated for Shaun. Tune in to hear her inspiring story, what steps she took that all of us, despite our situation should take and how her family built a support team around itself. This is really 3 stories in one and a not to be missed episode. Liz and Brian became the Hub in Shaun's medical spoke system, always asking for anwers, questioning how treatments would benefit their patient, their young son and making medical providers see Shaun as the whole complete young child he was, not merely parts. This is what PATHS teaches and we are honored to have Liz join us on the show. 01:00:00Christine LangnoCancer,Pediatric,Patient Advocacy,Seeking a Diagnosis,Medical AdviceLiz Langley is a dynamo, a nurse, mother, active in her community, an American success story. Where does their strength and support come from? We will learn from 3 amazing women: Elaine Erickson, who has 2 forms of Lupus, Sue Lewis, patient and mother of patients with Crohn's Disease and Ann Rogan, breast cancer survivor. One of my favorite quotes is: "There is no reason to learn or experience anything exept to help someone else" The quote is anoynomous but the words ring true!01:00:00Christine LangnoWomen,Health,Family,Illness Provention,MedicalWe can learn a lot from people who have faced or are facing health challenges but don't let those challenges define them.
