The Christian Humanism CommUNITY Church http://www.blogtalkradio.com/chcclThe Christian Humanism CommUNITY Church of Love (C.H.C.C.L.) was formerly The Pluralistic CommUNITY of the Guiding Light. What started as an innovative, pluralistic approach to spirituality seeking to embrace all religions – as well as atheists and agnostics – evolved into Christian Humanism. This was a natural progression because I actually am and was a non-theist trying to get the world’s believers and nonbelievers to “play nicely” without so much emphasis on my own non-belief in a “creator-God”. Additionally, I’m a former aspiring Christian minister who – though possessing very intimate knowledge of the Bible – always viewed if metaphorically. So after embracing my non-belief I still acknowledged the benefit of spiritual structure and sought out a discipline that fit; determined that if I didn’t find one, I would codify one of my own. Religious Humanism seemed like a great fit but I firmly believe that a Christian Humanism ministry allows for that “synthesizing and dynamic force” referred to in the 1933 Humanist Manifesto I. An actual “Religious” Humanist Manifesto, though not explicitly named, it proffered that “to establish such a religion [shaped for the needs of this age] is a major necessity of the present.” I vehemently concur. Many “mainstream” Christians don’t take the Bible literally and thus are able to disregard the edicts to kill nonbelievers, witches, blasphemers, gay men, etc. Yet they will still balk at the fact that the C.H.C.C.L. uses it despite maintaining it to be a book written by primitive yet sagacious men as a codification of order and who espoused it as divine in order to insure acceptance of it. Many “mainstream” nonbelievers will likewise maintain that use of a man-made text considered sacred by many serves to compromise the discipline of Humanism. I promise a groundbreaking paradigm in the upcoming wedding of Christianity and Humanism. It is thus better to push back the wedding than to risk the viability and longevity of the marriage.] I have been all around the world spiritually and have settled on exactly what works for me. Though I consider all religions to be based upon myth -- like the late Joseph Campbell -- all myth have elements of both fact and fiction. Since adulthood, when my search for god started in earnest, I have taken more of a metaphoric view of the bible. This episode will illucinate just why -- when the obvious metaphors in the narrative called the Bible are given hierarchy over literal understanding -- the Humanism within becomes quite obvious. I am writing an introduction to The Christian Humanism CommUNITY Church of Love, and will use it as a supplement to the Bible to extract the Humanism, explain why the adsurd should be ignored, and proceed to get the lessons from the most worthy passages/fables that enhance our humanity. Mary Baker Eddy also took this approach when she wrote a text that she used to interpret the Bible for the Christian Scientist Chrch. Within a week I should have about a 50 page doc that i will upload for those interested in reading it before the show. That's why I'm scheduling it 13 days out. But is that accurate? According to scripture -- Christian and otherwise -- do we have INDIVIDUAL judgment days or wait in an unknowable state for aggregate resurrection on a date and time wherein we are ALL judged in succession? Is it so unbearable to think of our loved ones as being merely dead and gone that we have to imagine them being in "a better place" -- whether they truly are or not? Today we will examine the question of exactly WHEN the "Afterlife" -- whether we call it Heaven, Paradise, Nirvana, Happy Hunting Ground, Transmigration, etc. -- truly begins.
