Lenecia Nickell, MA, LPCC, NCC is the Director of Sport Psychology and Wellness for the University of Cincinnati Athletics Department. A mental health professional for 20 years, she assumed the role in January 2022 as the first to hold the position.
A Texas native, Ms. Nickell was raised with a love of sport and strong family values that highlight servant leadership and education. After graduating from Texas A&M with a B.S. degree in Psychology, she began her professional career as a case manager for non-profit organizations. This experience led her to complete a M.A. degree in Counseling from Sam Houston State University. She worked for non-profit agencies and schools before starting her own private practice and consulting service in 2012. She has a Sport Psychology certification from California Southern University and is currently pursuing her PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision from Adams State University along with certification as a mental performance consultant.
Ms. Nickell's journey into college athletics began after attending a seminar that highlighted the growing need for mental health support for student athletes. Mental health education and advocacy are her primary areas of focus, along with working to educate and mentor emerging clinicians and professionals who want to work in college athletics.
