From book to movie

From book to movie who did it better? Have you read the books to  your favorite movies? Which do you prefer. I know many die hard book fans always prefer book to movie. Not that we don't love the movies. It's just that we get to play out the scenes in  our head they way we want them to go. Movies tend to cuty out so much of the really good stuff.
