Obie Award-winning playwright/performer David Drake chats about his critically acclaimed theatrical creation "Tawny Heatherton" in TAWNY, TELL ME TRUE.

TAWNY, TELL ME TRUE is an evening of songs & stories where Tawny recalls such indelible moments in her globe-trotting journey as her stint as a HEE HAW Honey, her unexpected tryst in Hollywood with Burt and Loni, and Tawny’s ongoing quest to reunite with her long-lost aunt Joey, whom she last saw in the parking lot of the Mohegan Sun Casino. And of course, her abduction by aliens.

“Tawny is an utterly original creation, a free-form madwoman who doesn't do "jokes" but dares to engage her audience on the strength of her rambling mind and tender, broken heart.” -- Armistead Maupin

“A subtle, surprising theater piece with music. Drake is funny and affecting, pulling off the impossible feat of creating a blonde character who's terminally superficial and deeply profound at the same time.” -- Michael Musto

"I walked away breathless and in awe of one of the most talented writer/performers of our time." - Huffington Post

TAWNY, TELL ME TRUE runs October 19, 25 & 26 at 7:30pm at the Laurie Beechman Theatre in NYC.

Plus, David discusses the 20th anniversary of his landmark theatre piece THE NIGHT LARRY KRAMER KISSED ME, and his current workshops with artists developing their own indelible "one man shows."
