Divide + Conquer. It's been around since...forever. From Julius Ceasar to Emperor Steven the First. With one common goal. To seize and maintain power. There is no denying the success of this tactic when one looks at history. But it always ultimately fails. Harper has used it as a weapon since Day One of the Corporate Pacification Committee (CPC). It is time for Canadians to see it for what it is and say enough.
Kevin Bourassa (@KevinBourassa) became an international advocate on behalf of equal marriage for same-sex couples when his January 14, 2001 marriage to Joe Varnell captured world headlines. After an initial career as a broadcaster and music journalist, Kevin's spent the bulk of his career working in information technology beginning in the 1980's and in banking during the 1990s. He was Director of Process Management for a bank when he was invited, with Mr. Varnell, to be a test case for a court challenge against the prohibition of marriage for same-sex couples. Things changed overnight.
Kevin travelled with Joe to speak to audiences in Canada, the US, and Europe, advocating marriage equality. He has delivered lectures at numerous universities and law schools. In addition to speaking, Kevin became an active author, publishing in an assortment of commercial and adjudicated academic publications. In 2002 he coauthored, with Joe Varnell, the critically-acclaimed book, Just Married: Gay Marriage and the Expansion of Human Rights, published in Canada and the United States in English and worldwide in French translation. He is under contract, along with Joe, for a second book.
Kevin has been recognized, with Joe Varnell, for working on behalf of human rights. The couple were honoured as grand marshals for Pride parades in London, Halifax + Saint John. Now in retirement, Kevin enjoys married life with Joe and three cats.
The View Up Here is honoured to welcome Kevin to the show for his insight.
