Dr. Rob Huizenga, an Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine at UCLA, is the former L.A. Raider doctor and NFL Physician Society President who chronicled his experiences in You’re OK, It’s Just a Bruise – A Doctor’s Sideline Secrets about Pro-Football’s Most Outrageous Team. This book sparked the national debate on anabolic steroids and traumatic head injuries and was the basis for Oliver Stone’s Any Given Sunday (Mathew Modine plays Rob in the movie). Most recently, Huizenga authored Where Did All the Fat Go? The WOW Prescription to Reach Your Ideal Weight and Stay There, an innovative anti-obesity approach based on observations of overweight pro athletes together with five years of research on over 400 couch-potato applicants to NBC's Biggest Loser. The WOW! Rx mergers cutting edge exercise, nutrition, psychology, attention to sleep, social dynamics together with old-fashioned hard work. Currently, Rob is teamed with several nationally recognized academic centers in five ongoing research trials studying past and current BL participants. Rob was valedictorian and a three sports all-county athlete at Penfield High; he was honors math and biology and NCAA All-American wrestler at the University of Michigan; immunology major and all-star Rugby player while at Harvard Medical School. He was chosen Chief Medical Resident then entered a pulmonary fellowship at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center before leaving to serve as team physician for the Raiders as well as the national medical correspondent for Break Away (FOX) and later for The Home Show (ABC).
