For our second show with a candidate of 2015, The Social Spitball Show welcomes Ken Spaulding, Democratic candidate for Governor of North Carolina in 2016.

Kenneth B. Spaulding is a native of Durham, North Carolina and has served as a practicing attorney through his law office since 1970. He is a graduate of Howard University in Washington, DC. He received his Juris Doctor from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill, North Carolina in 1970. While there, Ken was the first minority to be elected as president of a first-year law class and became the first minority Honor Court Chief Justice.

In 1978, Spaulding was elected to the North Carolina House of Representatives where he served until 1984. While there, he introduced and helped secure passage of the state’s first Rape Victim Assistance Program. During his six years in the House of Representatives, he pushed for literacy achievement for adults throughout North Carolina. Another important accomplishment while in the North Carolina General Assembly, was that Ken introduced and helped pass legislation that finally allowed public housing residents the opportunity to serve and vote on local Housing Authority Boards.

During Spaulding's private sector career, he helped bring hundreds of millions of dollars of economic investment and development into North Carolina, along with thousands of jobs.

Spaulding is the son of Asa T. Spaulding, Sr., former President of North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance Company and Elna Spaulding, Durham’s first woman and African American woman County Commissioner. Spaulding and his wife Wendy, reside in Durham, North Carolina. Together they have five children.

Spaulding, "The People's Candidate for Governor," was the first Democratic candidate in the race, running since 2013.

Barbara & I look forward to it! Let's get the conversation going...
