"...Someday, I will help all the survivors I can," Emily Annis tells me. It looks to me like she's done it! She began a website for the brain injured community (9 years after her accident) with Michelle Munt (a European blogger) in April of this year. During this time, they have gone from <100 to just under 3000 members. It's hard to get an exact number as the upper bound changes daily.
The logo on the front page of the group says: The group is: Brain Injury & Mental Health Support Group. (This is) A group for Brain Injury Survivors, their families and caregivers from anywhere in the world. This aim of this group is for us to support each other by sharing stories & ideas. This is a safe place where we understand each other & can help one another.
She became interested in beginning this site after a pontine stroke. (That is a bleed of the brain stem that few people survive.) She was left with her entire body paralyzed with damage to virtually all of her cranial nerves, especially on the left. However, it is a testiment to her character that she didn't let that stop her, and went on to create this site that benefits thousands of people.
Tonight we will talk about her injury, her current status and Brain Injury & Mental Health Support Group.
