BRAZIL: A lady running for city council in the town of Itacoatiara drew the attention of police who noticed a “huge” crowd gathering around her car on election day.  Officers searched the vehicle and found hundreds of her leaflets – with packages of cocaine attached. Residents said she had been giving them out in exchange for promises to vote for her.

Professor Birdsong  served as a diplomat with the State Department with various postings in Nigeria, Germany, and the Bahamas. He also worked as a federal prosecutor, first as an Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Columbia, and later as a Special Assistant United States Attorney for the U.S. Virgin Islands.
