A dicey question: Are sexually active heterosexual men and their partners satisfied with a dice roll [or a crap shoot] when it comes to unplanned parenthood? No! But the annual pregnancy rate for couples using a condom as primary birth control is 18% [worse than 1 in 6].
The solution? Scientists around the globe are ready to create an effective male contraceptive – but they need funding.
Aaron Hamlin, M.P.H., Esq., is a Co-Founder and the Executive Director of The Male Contraception Initiative (MCI), a nonprofit organization focused on giving men contraceptive options. MCI works with researchers worldwide.
Beverly Tucker, M.P.H., MCI Secretary and Director, attended the recent International Conference on Family Planning in Indonesia on behalf of MCI. She worked with Airlangga University researchers developing the male contraceptive Gendarussa, now in Phase II human trials and the furthest along of any male contraceptive to date.
