Mark and Cora Lijek are two of the 6 embassy staff who fled the 1979 Iranian hostage crisis by being sheltered by Canadian diplomats. The takeover of the embassy  which left 44 hostages captured for 14 months is a significant event in history.  The successful escape of the Lijek's and the other four Americans is depicted in Mark Lijek's memoir, The Houseguests: A Memoir of Canadian Courage and CIA Sorcery. The book describes the  CIA plot having the six pose as members of a film production team in order to get them out of the country and safely home. He tells the actual accounts of how the Canadians courageously sequestered the Americans for weeks until the CIA managed to get them out of the country. Their story, depicted in the Oscar nominated film Argo , is one of courage, dedication trust and loyalty. Join us to hear the  details of these  events and learn more about the lives of two Americans committed to a life of Foreign Service .
