His journey of performing started when he participated in a black history program at his elementary school. This is also the discovery of his hidden talent by his family, particularly his aunt and mom. While visiting the school that day to watch her daughter's performance, his aunt was stunned to see her nephew on the stage. She was even more shocked to hear the hearty chords belted from her 7-year -old nephew. She called his mom during the show and let her hear this "amazing little boy" sing. When his mother discovered that it was her son, she burst into tears. From that day forward, J.Howell earned much support from his family to pursue his dream.
J.Howell is not your average artist. He cares not to be categorized musically, but to get a hint of his style, it would be labeled as soulful R&B with a sprinkle of pop.
