After watching movies like 28 Days Later and Shaun of the Dead, Derrell Clark began discussing zombie preparedness with friends and colleagues. Intrigued by this discussion and finding that most of what they were discussing applied to real life scenarios such as hurricanes, terrorist attacks, and other disasters, Derrell began to apply these principles and preparations to his personal life.
Having spent most of his adult life in the healthcare industry in one aspect or another, with experience in Public Health, EMS, and Emergency Medicine, he began to expand these thoughts and preparations to his work life as well. Understanding the tremendous impact a community-wide disaster would have on the hospital, Derrell felt that the best way to help prepare his community was to prepare his hospital.
Upon receiving his Master’s degree in Disaster Medicine and Management, Derrell began working with a Healthcare Coalition, whose mission was to coordinate disaster planning between County officials, Hospitals, and EMS agencies across a 13-county area. A few years ago, Derrell began to specialize in Hospital preparedness and now operates as an Emergency Management Specialist for one of the leading healthcare organizations in the Southeast.
