Gail Tverberg is a researcher who is trying to figure out the connection between energy limits and the economy, and what this means for our future. Her background is as a casualty actuary, working in insurance forecasting. She does not take the views of other researchers as a “given.” Instead she tries to do her own investigation, going back to many primary sources of information.
Gail's views are published on OurFiniteWorld.com, where she makes them available without ads or donations. She also publishes a few articles in the academic literature, including Oil Supply Limits and the Continuing Financial Crisis.
She is a frequent speaker at many types of conferences, including an invitation to speak in April 2017 at a European Commission workshop on “New Narratives of Energy and the Economy,” in Brussels, Belgium.
Gail is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society, and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries. She has a master’s degree in mathematics from the University of Illinois—Chicago. She first started writing about energy issues in 2006. Between 2007 and 2013, she was also a writer and editor on the group web site TheOilDrum.com, under the pen name, “Gail the Actuary.”
