Jacqueline Bernal is a Certified Professional Bookkeeper and owner of Bernal Business Services Inc.  She started her business in 2004 after being laid off work 4 months after she and her husband separated.  Feeling alone and abandoned, with two children aged 9 and 11 years old, and with little or no support as a powerful group tried to take their land, she accepted a nanny job the very next day.  Over the next few months she picked up a couple of bookkeeping clients, and in June 2004, with a grant from EI, she returned to school at Academy of Leaning to upgrade her computer skills with the hopes of starting a bookkeeping business.  In May 2005 she graduated, and attended several training and networking sessions at The Business Link.

As the demand for top quality bookkeepers continued to grow, Jackie struggled with trying to grow her business, raise her kids, keep her land, and not lose faith in life.  Today, her kids are grown and gone.  Her son works with her, her former husband is one of her student intern’s as he takes the Payroll Compliance course at Academy of Learning,  and she has recently opened an office in Edmonton.  Jackie has developed a unique system of training, coaching, and mentoring her team of university, college, and diploma graduates who are interested in developing their own bookkeeping business.  She is a member of the Board of Directors of the Institute of Professional Bookkeepers of Canada, and a QuickBooks ProAdvisor.
