The origin of the Runes is of Odin, the principal Norse god.
Odin hung from the world tree, Yggdrasill,
impaled on his own spear,
He hung for nine days and nights,
then he saw the Runes in the underworld ,
He reached down and took the Runes,
runic knowlege gave him power .
Runic alphabets first appeared among German tribes in central and eastern Europe during Roman times from northern Italy. Many Runes have been acquired from other alphabets, such as the Greek, Etruscan, and the Early Roman .The runes were adapted from the Latin alphabet in order to make the characters suitable to cut into wooden staffs. The earliest Runic inscriptions ( Elder Futhark runes) on stone are dated to the late 3rd century AD, although it is probable that Runic Alphabets had been in use for some centuries before.
