The sanctuary’s mission is to rescue abused, abandoned, and unwanted farm animals, provide them with permanent sanctuary and lifetime care, and educate the public about the plight of farmed animals and the compassionate choices they can make daily to create a kinder world. Blackberry Creek is unique in that it was intended to be a sanctuary for both animals and people. It seeks to partner young people with the animals, providing them an opportunity to interact with them and assist in their care without the having to sell them at the end as is common in many youth programs like 4-H or FFA. Children with special needs and at-risk youth can come to the sanctuary and learn about the disabilities and emotional turmoil the animals have faced and connect that to their own experiences. In this way, people find healing, learn they have great value, and are taught that their pasts certainly do not dictate their futures. Blackberry Creek attempts to save far more animals than it could ever welcome through its doors, simply by educating people about the harmful effects of meat, eggs, and dairy on their own health, the environment, and the lives of animals. It is run solely by volunteers and donations and hopes to one day offer full-time educational programs in schools. 01:11:00Andrew KirschnernoBlackberry Creek Farm Animal Sanctuary, animal rights, vegan, farmed animals, animal rescueFind out what it's like to start and operate a farm sanctuary!Michelle and Mark Pruitt discuss the joy of running Uplands PEAK Sanctuaryhttps://www.blogtalkradio.com/andrew-kirschner/2016/06/07/michelle-and-mark-pruitt-discuss-the-joy-of-running-uplands-peak-sanctuaryNon-Profithttps://www.blogtalkradio.com/andrew-kirschner/2016/06/07/michelle-and-mark-pruitt-discuss-the-joy-of-running-uplands-peak-sanctuary/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/andrew-kirschner/2016/06/07/michelle-and-mark-pruitt-discuss-the-joy-of-running-uplands-peak-sanctuaryTue, 07 Jun 2016 00:00:00 GMTMichelle and Mark Pruitt discuss the joy of running Uplands PEAK SanctuaryMark and Michelle Pruitt co-founded the non-profit Uplands PEAK Sanctuary in 2012 and began taking in animals in 2013. She refuses to give up on those who haven’t made the switch to plant-based foods and continues to offer progress through the senses, not just the intellect, using diverse avenues. These have included a restaurant and natural food company that distributed products nationwide and supplied cookies and pastries to United Airlines.  Inspiring the general public through her 5 cookbooks, including the best-selling and “groundbreaking” Artisan Vegan Cheese and The Homemade Vegan Pantry—the Art of Making Your Own Staples, published in June 2015, Schinner also recognizes that not everyone will take up the cause in their own kitchens. To answer this call, in 2014, she launched Miyoko’s Kitchen, which set out to redefine the category of “cheese” with its unctuous, decadent, delicious flavors of handcrafted cheeses made from nuts. Miyoko’s Kitchen currently sells nationwide to thousands of stores, and exports to Australia and Hong Kong.  No stranger to public speaking or media attention, Schinner also co-hosts the national cooking show Vegan Mashup, presents live at major events around the country, and is frequently featured in national and local media.
