Wissahickon Souls, by author PJ Devlin, tells the story of Claire, the young daughter of a black family that lives in the Germantown section of Philadelphia, descended from William Penn’s slaves. Like her brother, she is indentured to the white family that owns Wissahickon Farm outside Philadelphia. From her birth in 1806 to 1836, Claire struggles to forge a future determined by the call of her soul rather than the color of her skin. It’s a story of identity and community in a natural world that makes no distinction based on skin color. The novel is published by Possibilities Publishing and is set to be released on September 6, 2014, and can be found on any of the major online book retailers, including Amazon.com and Barnesandnoble.com.
