This is the Story of Melissa Ragsdale & Gavins Battle, Doose Syndrome Epilepsy. Melissa is a lifetime resident of Kansas,a married mother of three young boys and a teenage stepson. Melissa is a former stylist turned stay at home mom and cannabis activist. Melissa's journey into the world of Cannabis began when her son was diagnosed with Epilepsy. This type of epilepsy includes multiple seizure types & is characterized as hard to treat & often resistant to medications. After trying multiple and sometimes “layered” medications. Gavin was diagnosed as “refractory” experiencing seizure aggravation from all anti-epileptic drugs. Gavin suffered serious consequences from dangerous pharmaceutical drugs leaving him with little cognitive function hundreds of seizures a day. In 2014, the Ragsdale’s ordered Industrial Hemp CBD to try to give their son relief; amazing things happened. Melissa was able to bring her son's cognitive function back to life and wean him off all psychotropic drugs. Gavin experienced up to 40% reduction in seizure activity. Currently Gavin is having 50-100+ seizures a day. Melissa spent countless hours researching Cannabis as medicine, learning about the endocannabinoid system, the “Entourage Effect” and the importance of each unique part of the plant. This research has taught Melissa that what Gavin needs is access to full plant cannabis medicines, including THC and all other cannabinoids. Melissa and her family are fighting in Kansas for safe access to full spectrum cannabis medicine. Kansas currently labels Cannabis as an “inherently dangerous substance”. The Kansas legislators have repeatedly denied patients access, leaving her family fearful they will be forced to leave everything they know and risk everything to save their son.
