On tonight's episode I'm pleased to welcome Marcia Epstein (mar-shuh ep-st-eye-n) to the show...

Some of what Marcia believes:

  • Art Saves Lives.
  • Without laughter we explode, and that’s just not pretty.
  • Grief is about love, and there is no end to either.
  • Each person is doing the best they can with the info they have at the time.
  • Corollary: Sometimes one’s best is not good enough.
  • Each person is the expert on their own life.
  • Corollary: Some of our guiding thoughts about ourselves are LIES.
  • The USA has not yet welcomed and valued all people in their beautiful diversity.
  • Awareness + TOOLS = Change
  •  “Yet …”
  • “And also …”
  • Love really IS the answer.

Some of what Marcia does:

  • She’s a highly trained social work professional who uses her training, life experience, and compassion to help people stick around long enough to develop skills for coping with life’s ups and downs, to get to a life with joys.
  • She works mostly with people who live with suicidal thoughts and attempts, people who are grieving, people who have experienced trauma.
  • And since 2014 began, Marcia has been talking with a lot of artists in real life and through her podcast Talk With ME, and hosting art events that feature poetry, including the annual Words Save Lives, each year on World Suicide Prevention Day, September 10.

Some of what Marcia loves:

  • Her family, including rescue dog Beau, and friends
  • Laughter
  • Learning
  • Old buildings and their stories
  • Nature as experienced through wandering on land or in kayak
