Author Greg Kaplan - The Journey
in Self Help
Greg Kaplan is a college application strategist that focuses on building compelling application themes that persuade admissions officers to highly consider an applicant. He focuses on marketing an applicant’s unique skills, passions, and strengths. Greg is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Business. He lives in Newport Beach, California.
About The Journey - Rooted in humorous stories distilled with bits of sagely honest advice, The Journey goes beyond the well-chronicled college admissions madness and cuts to the core of parental angst with concrete suggestions for preparing children for a competitive and rapidly changing world. Young people face an increasing medley of challenges as they pursue higher education—rising tuition costs, daunting prospective student debt, and a talented and competitive applicant pool. After a decade of preparing students for the ever more difficult admissions process, college counselor Greg Kaplan wishes parents would stop thinking, “What should I do to get my kid into a good college?” and instead ask: “How can I best prepare my child for what comes next?” Having practiced law and worked in investment banking early in his career before pivoting to working with students, parents, and educators, Kaplan knows what the world—and its population of college admissions officers—is looking for in today’s youth and tomorrow's leaders: Grit. Leadership. Passion.

Stop Child Abuse Now (SCAN) - 3442

Tonight’s special guest is Jade Brown from Georgia. Jade’s first childhood trauma began when she was 3 years old. They had a friend of the family, whom her mother knew and trusted, and would take her to the babysitters and sexually traumatize her. She would cry and be in shock until she was 7 years old. She thought it was normal. Jade’s next childhood trauma was in her preteens by someone who she called a cousin because both of their mothers were great friends. He used to babysit her and when they were alone, he made her give him oral sex, he urinated in her mouth and said if you told, he would hurt her mom. So, she suffered in silence. It was a horrible experience. Life has been overwhelming, and mentally exhausting, she’s been through several therapists with a temporary fix. It has affected all her relationships but today, at present, she’s seeing a therapist through EAP with her job for healing and other outside services. She has been with the National Alliance On Mental Illness (NAMI) for 25 years. She started back home with NAMI Philadelphia, NAMI Sacramento, NAMI San Francisco, NAMI Atlanta /Auburn. Jade is currently a board member with NAMI Dekalb Affiliate. “My work is not done. I’m the voice for those who suffer in silence.” She says. Everyone is invited to engage in tonight's show.
