Fouts, who was the victim of abuse after abuse is certainly not a victim today.  In fact, she is a flourishing and forceful advocate, assisting victims and others who have been involved in various painful experiences, to rise above the experience and thrive.  While HANA addresses various types of trauma, the organization focuses on recovery for people who have experienced incest, domestic violence, sexual abuse, rape, and abortion. All too often, these traumas, and others, are left unchecked and lie dormant until a circumstance in life draws them out, usually in the form of nightmares, addictions, or unhealthy patterns.    In Fouts’ own words, “There’s not one of us that does not have hurts and pains that are sometimes bigger than us.  We try to ignore it or excuse that it really isn’t that bad, but the pain is there, even if we don’t understand it.” "The storms we experience in life either build or break us. They ultimately forge our character, build our inner strength, and create our foundation in life, as well as our faith in God." Some predict that this is the beginning of a panademic, while others adamantly proclaim it to be yet another hype situation; one that is very much misleading.  This segment of Living Well encourages us to embrace the seriousness of the need for cleanliness and self-care at the most basic levels. Folks, let's prepare to receive some food for thought and our souls. To learn more about Westminster Chapel,  visit: https://www.westminster.org  Or, send me an email with your comments to: zenobiabailey1@aol.com.  Please be sure to place Living Well Podcast in the subject line. 00:28:00Zenobia Bailey and Living Wellnohope,Love,Purpose,Ministry,Westminster Chapel of BellevueIn our topsy turvy world, where is the hope and where is the love?26b0dd0d-7fdf-45db-bed7-bd33adfd3ec2124fullFighting Seasonal Blueshttps://www.blogtalkradio.com/zenobiabaileyandlivingwell/2019/12/20/fighting-seasonal-bluesHealthhttps://www.blogtalkradio.com/zenobiabaileyandlivingwell/2019/12/20/fighting-seasonal-blues/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/zenobiabaileyandlivingwell/2019/12/20/fighting-seasonal-bluesFri, 20 Dec 2019 23:30:00 GMTFighting Seasonal Blues Tomorrow is the official start of Winter and with it often comes what has become known as the Winter Blues.  Christmas, and all of its festivities, is just five (5) days away.  Unfortunately, it has become more and more commercialized.  This year proves to be no different, dwarfing its true meaning; one of love and sacrifice for the world versus getting and giving the "perfect gift" which, more times than not, leaves bank accounts in the red. As daylight savings time reduces the daylight and the amount of time folks are outdoors, a type of depression known as seasonal emotional disorder surfaces; just around the time of Hanukkah, Christmas, and Kwaanza.  Other concerns that contribute to this soar during these holidays and their celebrations include loneliness, economic struggles, fatigue, family disputes, and the loss of loved ones. Our guest, Maquestia Griggsby, will walk us through ways to recognize and combat these Blues. Griggsby holds a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from Avila University in Kansas City, MO.  She is a certified life coach and enjoys helping others discover how to achieve their personal and professional goals.    In her free time, she enjoys spending time with friends and family, having quiet time, salsa dancing, cooking, learning Spanish, and writing blogs about various motivational and health related topics.  She is the proud mom of a highly creative teenage son, who loves writing, music, and expressing himself through videography. Once again, I must ask, How did we get to the middle of November so quickly?  In just seven days, we will celebrate the fourth Thursday in the month, known as Thanksgiving Day, here in the US.  It is also the time of year when many of us at least think about how we might enjoy all of the food that somehow finds itself tempting our tastebuds, everywhere we turn. To assist us with this goal, I'd like to remind you and myself of the value that fruit and raw veggies offer us.  The selections are endless.  Dress things up by selecting from the full range of colors... purples, reds, greens, white, yellows and more. If desired, make or purchase your favorite full bodied salad dressing for dipping.  In addition to these delicacies helping to minimize extra calories, they are a great source of much needed fiber. Enjoy whatever you do and I look forward to sharing our next segment of Living Well with YOU.  Until then,         ~ Zenobia 00:09:00Zenobia Bailey and Living WellnoThanksgiving,Thankful, celebration,Fruit and vegetables, fiberGrateful hearts can't help saying 'Thank You.'7bd566ae-f6e5-4f54-974b-939782f767a8122fullWorkplace Communication Part 3: A human resources point of viewhttps://www.blogtalkradio.com/zenobiabaileyandlivingwell/2019/10/31/workplace-communication-part-3-a-human-resources-point-of-viewWomenhttps://www.blogtalkradio.com/zenobiabaileyandlivingwell/2019/10/31/workplace-communication-part-3-a-human-resources-point-of-view/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/zenobiabaileyandlivingwell/2019/10/31/workplace-communication-part-3-a-human-resources-point-of-viewThu, 31 Oct 2019 22:30:00 GMTWorkplace Communication Part 3: A human resources point of view Our upcoming guest, now retired, has spent the majority of her career in executive leadership and human resources (HR) management and development.  Najja E. In addition to the 8, 10, even 12 glasses a day, intake at strategic times of the day, proves helpful.  For instance, a glass or two after waking helps activate internal organs. Other suggestions include drinking: a glass 30 minutes before a meal to help digestion; a glass right before taking a bath helps lower blood pressure; a glass before going to bed helps avoid a stroke or heart attack; and a glass or two in the event of a charlie horse helps relieve its cramps. Cynthia wrote Memoirs of a Caregiver to share her journey as a caregiver to four family members stricken with Alzheimer’s disease.  Being a long distance caregiver comes with many challenges and Young writes about them and the struggles and triumphs that she encountered along the way.  Three other books chronicle life, as she sees it, via collections of rhyme. For most families, having just one member afflicted with Alzheimer's can be devastating. In her poignant memoir, Cynthia shares her story of love and devotion as she learns how to care for four family members stricken with Alzheimer's disease, over a ten-year period. Young narrates a journey filled with laughter, challenges, and sorrow as she commutes from California to Michigan to care for her mother, two aunts, and a cousin. She provides insight into how the disease progresses and gradually destroys the memory and abilities to learn, reason, make sound judgments, communicate, and carry out daily activities.  Join us as we have an open and candid discussion that will extend beyond the normal 15 minute segment. During Cynthia's second appearance, we will look forward to her unraveling some of the rhymes found in her first collection, Cynthology: A Collection of Rhymes.    00:33:00Zenobia Bailey and Living Wellnocaregivers,Alzheimers,Alzheimer's personality, communication, assisted living arrangementsA caregiver's story of assisting four family members with alzheimer's diseaseHealing finds its way among the broken hearted.https://www.blogtalkradio.com/zenobiabaileyandlivingwell/2016/08/15/healing-finds-its-way-among-the-broken-heartedHealthhttps://www.blogtalkradio.com/zenobiabaileyandlivingwell/2016/08/15/healing-finds-its-way-among-the-broken-hearted/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/zenobiabaileyandlivingwell/2016/08/15/healing-finds-its-way-among-the-broken-heartedMon, 15 Aug 2016 22:30:00 GMTHealing finds its way among the broken hearted.Lynda Cheldelin Fell, an award-winning and international bestselling author, also creator of the 5-star book series Grief Diaries, will be my guest, Monday, August 15th, 3:30 PST.  A pioneer in the field of inspirational hope in the aftermath of loss, Lynda has a passion for producing trailblazing projects that create a legacy of help, healing, and hope.  In 2007, Lynda had a vivid dream of her daughter drowning in a car accident, leaving behind a book floating on the water where she disappeared. Among homeless families, 90 percent are female-headed.”  The risk of women veterans becoming homeless is four times greater, and rising, than for male veterans; affecting them and their children.  Neither of these demographics should be acceptable.  Today, however, we are taking a glimpse at our homeless female veterans and their families. Our guest is Deirdre Burton.  Major Burton served her country as a member of the United States Army Reserves with a military career that covers nearly 31 years. For years, I watched this selfless woman, who I happen to call Mom, model a relentless commitment and dedication to helping others, especially women and their children. In fact, I credit her for instilling the same commitment that has spurred my bent towards advocacy and, in turn, my daughter's. One dimension of living well is reaching out to help others with a personal investment of time and funds. Julia has always done her best to ensure that her limited time and funds were used in the best way possible to assist those she could.   Over the years, she has seen the value in contributing funds not only to her church but community organizations. Join us as we discuss the importance of Gospel Missions and other ministry groups, located in our various communities.  With all of our support, they have the ability to reach large masses of people, making a difference to the whole person.   Note:  The purple rose is in recognition of Mom's favorite color and our journey through AD.  Many thanks to all of the individuals and organizations that help to make it a little easier for those traveling this path to live well. 00:16:00Zenobia Bailey and Living WellnoLove,Union Gospel Mission,Wheeler Mission Ministries,Central Union Mission,Pacific Garden MissionLove that moves out and into the trenches is a true demonstration of selflessness for the good of anotherBalancing your body's ph-levelhttps://www.blogtalkradio.com/zenobiabaileyandlivingwell/2016/02/01/balancing-your-bodys-ph-levelHealthhttps://www.blogtalkradio.com/zenobiabaileyandlivingwell/2016/02/01/balancing-your-bodys-ph-level/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/zenobiabaileyandlivingwell/2016/02/01/balancing-your-bodys-ph-levelMon, 01 Feb 2016 23:30:00 GMTBalancing your body's ph-levelOne simple regimen, when made a daily habit, can greatly affect the alkalinity of our cells; known as the building blocks of life.  In fact, there are close to 40 trillion essential building blocks in the average adult's body. With the propensity of sugars, hidden and visible, in our foods, a large portion of our population tends to lean towards acidic rather than alkaline levels. The fact of the matter is that if our pH levels are not properly balanced we are unable to process essential minerals and nutrients appropriately. PH levels range from 0.0 to 14.0 with a pH of 7.0 considered neutral.  Levels that are above 7.0 are considered alkaline. Levels that fall below 7.0, are considered acidic.  Alkaline levels are desirable and indicative of an oxygen-rich environment, while acidic levels are undesirable and indicative of an oxygen deprived environment which can lead to a host of health issues and concerns. We will discuss this vital topic on Monday, February 1st @ 3:30 PST.  00:15:00Zenobia Bailey and Living Wellnohealth and wellness,alkalinity,acidic,sugar,ph-levelsThe importance of maintaining the ph-level of our bloodstreamsThe unadulterated truth concerning sugarhttps://www.blogtalkradio.com/zenobiabaileyandlivingwell/2016/01/18/the-unadulterated-truth-concerning-sugarHealthhttps://www.blogtalkradio.com/zenobiabaileyandlivingwell/2016/01/18/the-unadulterated-truth-concerning-sugar/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/zenobiabaileyandlivingwell/2016/01/18/the-unadulterated-truth-concerning-sugarMon, 18 Jan 2016 23:30:00 GMTThe unadulterated truth concerning sugarDuring this broadcast, listeners will hear how minor dietary changes can positively affect their health and over-all well being. What do we do now?Today's guest is Kristine Broome, caregiver services coordinator with The Family Caregiver Support Program in Seattle.   In her own words, "I have been in my  current position assisting family caregivers for about a dozen years, so I am very familiar with the issues, concerns and challenges faced by family caregivers. Our program hopes to provide a range of information about available resources and referrals for family caregivers so they can feel supported in this demanding and stressful role. Caregivers need guidance and support as they cope with the needs of their care receiver while often experiencing stress and uncertainty as to what lies ahead. We liken it to a journey they don't have to navigate on their own. The Family Caregiver Support Program is there to be with them on this unique journey." 00:32:00Zenobia Bailey and Living Wellnocaregiver support,Alzheimer's Support,Respite Care,Commumity ResourcesToday's guest is Kristine Broome, caregiver services coordinator with The Family Caregiver Support Program in Seattle.   In her own words, "I have been in myBalancing Personal Finances Leads to Healthier Wealthhttps://www.blogtalkradio.com/zenobiabaileyandlivingwell/2015/04/13/balancing-personal-finances-leads-to-healthier-wealthFinancehttps://www.blogtalkradio.com/zenobiabaileyandlivingwell/2015/04/13/balancing-personal-finances-leads-to-healthier-wealth/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/zenobiabaileyandlivingwell/2015/04/13/balancing-personal-finances-leads-to-healthier-wealthMon, 13 Apr 2015 22:30:00 GMTBalancing Personal Finances Leads to Healthier WealthNisha Jackson, CEO of Financially Brilliant Women's Institute will be on our next show. Growing up on a farm with plenty of opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and sports, she found herself majoring in physical education which led to a Masters degree in physical education with an emphasis in administration. After graduating, she became a high school teacher coaching gymnastics, cheerleading, and volley ball.  After teaching school, Vicki became the President and owner of Tumble Tots, Inc., a mobile pre-school gymnastics program. Continuing with her passion for the sport of gymnastics, Vicki also coached at Ball State University, North Central High School, Miss Juanita’s Apple Juice Kids Child Care, Jireh Sports Urban Minstry, and Charles A. Tindley Accelerated High School.  Many participants in the Transitions Mentoring program were coached by Vicki as young gymnasts. One of Transitions' success "secrets" is that it employs the combination of discipleship tools and mentor-mentee accountability. With a passion for serving the Lord mixed with a passion for serving young people, watching them sprout and grow, Transitions Ministry is the perfect platform for all of this and more to happen.  Invite someone you know, a young adult or even someone older, to join you and listen in. Vicki will be taking calls with questions and comments at (646) 716-8344. 00:30:00Zenobia Bailey and Living Wellnoyouth ministry, coaching, mentoring, ministry, youthVicki Wright, founder and executive director of Transitions Mentoring Ministry is our guest today.
