General Malimba Masheke served as the last Prime Minister of Zambia from 15 March 1989 to 31 August 1991. He had previously been Minister of Defence from 1985 to 1988 and Minister of Home Affairs from 1988 to 1989. He was a Zambian army officer, career soldier, and career politician. General Masheke also served as Army Commander, he joins us on Perspectives for our special independence feature to share his memories as a young man and his involvement in the struggle for independence. What made him choose a military career and how were the conditions for young African natives in the per-independence armed forces of Northern Rhodesia.

Gen Masheke will also discuss the challenges of a hostile neighbor in Southern Rhodesia and one Adamson Mushala who terrorized his own nationals in North-western Zambia.
